Need help finding a black 1" steerer tube shim

I bought a new Thomson X-2 Stem (and corresponding SILVER Thomson shim) and the shim is 5mm too long. I need to find a replacement shim to use and would like to find a black one - 36mm depth. Thomson informed me that they are aware of this problem - but don’t currently have a replacement shim.

Anyone know where I can order a black 1" to 1 1/8" steerer tube shim? Even if my LBS had one - a trip there would end up costing just as much in gas as ordering a new one.

I could cut my current shim down…but I really would like the shim to match the black stem.

Thanks in advance.

I think the shim Deda uses is black. Of course you can cut them down. Check your LBS as they likely have lots of them (ours does). Oval shims are black too as I recall.

Cut to fit shouldn’t be a problem.

I’m not sure I understand - is the shim showing through part of the stem? Why not just hit it with some black spray paint if you have some around?

Why not pinstripe your bimmer with wite-out? Dude, there’s a *proper *way to do things…

Point taken - but lest you forget, I’m a Mercedes guy right now
.

I’m not sure having a shim longer (deeper) than the stem is a good idea. Ideally you want a shim that is the exact length or slightly smaller and then use the appropriate sized (i.e. size of steerer) spacers above and/or below the stem.

Damn… I knew it was one or the other…
