This for a friend’s first road bike. Buying used, and the saddle is not included. Not particular, since there isn’t a frame of reference yet for likes or dislikes as he is just getting into the sport, and he just needs something to get him going for a while. Does anyone have a saddle lying around the garage they would like to part with for some pocket money? This is in lieu of going to Nashbar or the like and picking up an entry level saddle for $30 or so. Thought it never hurts to ask 
I know you said you’re looking for something besides nashbar, but just wanted to say that the nashbar race saddle is surprisingly nice, for the price.
Check around, and look on eBay. You can get a Selle San Marco Ponza for very little money. It is one of my favorite saddles, and I have several that are MUCH more expensive.

I have a Fizik Aliante Sport that is used, it looks identical to this one. The silver has rubbed off because of thigh rub. I’ll sell it to you for $30 shipped. My personal experience is the saddle is like a recliner, its very cushy on the site bone.
Both of these saddles are in great condition. Only a few dozen miles on each. 269g Selle San Marco Ponza for $25 shipped or 277g FSA SLK for $30 shipped. Both have steel rails.
