Need advice on training plans for Kona qualifying

Bottom line is I’ve got a green light from the family on making a commitment to get to Kona in FY06. I’m interested in finding a coach/training program/services that can you can advise me on the entire package, training, core strength, eating, etc - without breaking the bank.

Historically I’ve purchased plans for IM specific races, that I upload into Trainingpeaks.com, and they’ve worked well in the past. I’m interested in creating a 1+ year strategy/plan that allows me attempt to qualify at two 2006 IM races and possbily 2 2006 1/2 IMs (depending on if they’ll retain their Kona slots with the new 70.3 series). Anyone with recommendations and/or who to avoid would be appreciated.

Regards, John

Lots of questions for you. How many IM’s have you done in the past? How well have you done? Are you a Top 10 AG’er in the MDot races? It all depends on what you have done in the past and how well you did. Lots of questions need answered, but good luck though.

in my opinion anything more than a cookie-cutter training plan (e.g., grip’s program) really needs face-to-face time, a personal connection between coach & athlete. the stronger the relationship, the more benefit to the athlete. so i would look in your area, local tri club, etc. alternatively, you may be able to hook-up with a kona-caliber training partner.
