So my bike was busted in flight, and I have found a bike that I can borrow. However, it is a little small, and I need another cm or so out of the seat post- can you tell me what kind of seat post this is so that I can get a new one? I am having trouble identifying one that is tapered like this. I obviously want to spend as little as possible as this is just a temporary thing so that I can ride and until I figure out what to do with my bike.
Any help you can give is appreciated.
For aero style seatposts, they are the same as the frame, since they are designed to work together. Whatever brand frame you are borrowing will determine what seatpost you need.
It is a GT expert.
Then you’ll need to contact GT or a GT dealer…no one else is going to have a seatpost that fits.
Then what is the point of third party seat posts?
A better question is ,“what is the point of a round post with a point on the back that makes it so you can’t use a standard round 3rd party seatpost?”
anyway, other person is right, GT post is likely the only thing compatible.
3rd party posts are an option for round seatposts with “standard” diameters…27.2 and 31.8 being the two most common. A round tube is a round tube…match the diameters and you are good to go.
Once you start shaping the seat tube and having a seatpost that matches that shape, you are locked into that frame company’s design. There is not enough volume for 3rd party seat post companies to invest in seat posts for all the different designs on the market.
Now, the exception to the above would be if GT just used an “open mold” frame for the frame you are borrowing. If so, you could use a seat post from another company that happened to use the same mold. But you are still locked into a seatpost that fits the unique characteristics of your frame.
Ok. Thanks for the clarification. Just raging right now over a broken frame.
