I am looking for 15 watts. Here is my training setup
I ride a P2C. Here is what I am changing from training
Training
Box rims. Not aero. Not deep
Inexpensive tires
Biking shorts. Relatively loose shirt
Inexpensive non-aero helmet
Regular mounted water bottle
Racing
HED 3C front. Renn disk in back
Looking at purchasing Bontrager Race X Lite Pro tires. 19mm in front with 3C
Tri outfit
LG Rocket TT helmet
HydroTail
I will be racing at Florida HIM which I understand is really flat.
Do the difference between training and racing get me 15 watts? I did a full HIM+ on Saturday and did 200 watts avg which was 20.5mph but had to turn around every 2.25 miles.
I know it is hard to tell without knowing exact course, etc. But is it in the ball park.
Also there was a site that listed wattage for helmet, wheels, etc. I can’t find the link. Does anyone know the link?
Ok. I did not say it how I meant. I need to find .5 - 1 mph. I view it as an efficiency improvement of 15 watts. I am hoping
Rocket helmet will give me the same speed but require 6 watts less
HED C3 and Disk. Similiar 6 watts less
Tri outfit, tires 3 watts less
So I guess I should have said finding a savings of 15 watts while producing the same speed. So I need to find an improvement in efficiency of 15 watts.
A skinsuit will most likely allow you to ride 15watts less to average the same speeds you are talking about. Even if the skinsuit is only a 10w savings the wheels and helmet will get you there. A skinsuit, aero frame and aero helmet saved me 125 seconds over a 10 mi TT with very similar conditions and identical power.
Helmet alone gives you most of that. My drag improvement in going from training kit to race would give you a little under 1mph at 200W. You likely will get a bit more improvement than me as I’m picking your head is a lot further in the air.

You should gain .5-1mph by not having to turn around every 2.5 miles.
Just crush it, dude. You’ll be fine. But don’t forget to eat and don’t draft.
