For those who like to follow college sports here’s another one for you. The North East Collegiate Triathlon Conference just finished up its 2011 season. Despite having two races cancelled due to weather almost 200 college athletes from 18 schools came out to compete. They were competing for qualifying spots for the 2012 Collegiate Nationals.
Army had quite a showing as they are by far the strongest team in the conference, followed by Stevens and UVM. Penn State had a top showing at the champs but due to the cancelled races they only made one race (I’m guessing).
Wow, done with the season already. But I guess that makes sense, at least there can be a nice long build to nationals with not having to worry about qualification. Down here in the MCTC our conference champs is like 3-4 weeks before nationals. Nice place to be a prep race for nationals, but a little more dicey if you aren’t qualified by then.
Any word on the timing for nationals?
Yikes. I can’t imagine trying to plan that trip about a month out. It took me about 6 months to get everything all set for me/my team last year. Then again, I did all of the work, and it was the first time we’d ever gone
The good thing is that we are pretty much ensured to qualify as a team, just need to get the bodies to the conference champs. Makes it nice when you have a bigger team that can get a full team to every race.
