NECTC Wrap Up

For those who like to follow college sports here’s another one for you. The North East Collegiate Triathlon Conference just finished up its 2011 season. Despite having two races cancelled due to weather almost 200 college athletes from 18 schools came out to compete. They were competing for qualifying spots for the 2012 Collegiate Nationals.

Army had quite a showing as they are by far the strongest team in the conference, followed by Stevens and UVM. Penn State had a top showing at the champs but due to the cancelled races they only made one race (I’m guessing).

Enjoy

Wow, done with the season already. But I guess that makes sense, at least there can be a nice long build to nationals with not having to worry about qualification. Down here in the MCTC our conference champs is like 3-4 weeks before nationals. Nice place to be a prep race for nationals, but a little more dicey if you aren’t qualified by then.
Any word on the timing for nationals?

how does that work for you guys exactly? Doesn’t registration end up closing/selling out in early March?

No idea, but with the new qualification stuff I assume they’ll hold spots for our conference. Conference champs are on the 16th of March.

Yikes. I can’t imagine trying to plan that trip about a month out. It took me about 6 months to get everything all set for me/my team last year. Then again, I did all of the work, and it was the first time we’d ever gone

The good thing is that we are pretty much ensured to qualify as a team, just need to get the bodies to the conference champs. Makes it nice when you have a bigger team that can get a full team to every race.

Big congrats to Army, Stevens, and UVM!.. especially after we had 2 races get cancelled because of Hurricane Irene.

I think the NECTC is the first conference to have their qualifications done for Tuscaloosa already?

Gonna be a sweet showdown at Nationals!
