Give me a break, Tom. She makes more money out of adventure racing that most top-10 pros.
Willie Nelson’s manager??
Actually, I’d rather see guys like that tell their little story than the disease of the week. I also didn’t mind Robyn Benicasa, because that chick is BUFF and SOLID, but she can move. She qualified, no lottery spot, no special interest. David Roselle and Tricia Downing, the blind guy were also good stories. The rest, no.
Geez, folks, why all the bitterness? At least they’re not showing professional poker.
I am a bitter old man… I am irritated and annoyed here… just call me Scrooge McPaulo.
Geez, folks, why all the bitterness? At least they’re not showing professional poker.
It’s called an opinon. We all get one.
Ok, the rolling across the finish line is a LITTLE over top. (Your bitterness is rubbing off on me)
Don’t get me wrong- the Marc Herraman and Dick and Rick Hoyt stories are among my favorites. I also remember a Lynn Brooks interview that I loved since I am a big fan of her. I like those stories, especially when done well. I just want balance between that and race coverage.
The problems are with your expectations and not the show… it’s not Wide World of Sports… it’s not ESPN coverage… it’s never been balanced between human interest and pros… look at the awards it’s won… it’s a sports and entertainment show.
Take it for what it is and enjoy it.
But the most important question…were there any STers shown???
this year was particularly poor. there actually were 2 great races going on that they managed to quickly gloss over. i was wondering what was going to happen when they already were on the run 55 minutes into a 120 minute broadcast. nbc would have been able to show more of the race if they had not decided to show multiple footage twice. same music as last year. commercials every 5 minutes in the second hour. what was the point of showing that utterly annoying marlins president over and over again??? he got more coverage than most pros. nice coverage of 2-9 in the women’s race. you get the picture.
Willie Nelson’s manager??
Maybe it was him that tested positive.
I do have a problem with the “rollers”… it seems a bit out-of-place with the finish. I am a bit conflicted with these folks crossing the line… then again, Ironman is more about the experience rather the race… but I just wish people would display a bit more grace and class when they cross the line…
that’s just my initial reaction i suppose…
Consider their intended market. I think they’re doing a great job of making the race interesting to people who probably aren’t interested in the “race” so much as the “event”.
Anyone know when (or if) they are going to show Florida?
Im not gonna lie, today I watched College Basketball, whatever Skiing was on CBS, and a little of the 1-AA football. If Poker was on, I would’ve watched that too. I have zero interest in the Ironman broadcast, it is much more boring than Poker.
i was in 3 times!!! swim/transtion and bike!!! dr tommy was in a lot also!!! but stadler win as the most coverage for a slowtwitcher!!!
Geez, folks, why all the bitterness? At least they’re not showing professional poker.
Why so much bitterness towards poker and people trying to make a living playing cards? Geeeez.
Hey, if I could do it I would. (I would rather be a pro triathlete, though)
I guess for me it feels like they make it seem like anyone can do an Ironman. More to the point anyone can get to Hawaii. This is not the case. Yes anyone can do an Ironman but not everyone can get to Hawaii. I am for one a person that will never atempt to go to Hawaii as it is not one of my ultimate goals in life. I love triathlon but have no desire to try to qualify for Hawaii. The only thing that has always bugged me is the Hawaii lottery entries. I feel that if you want to go to Hawaii, you should earn your spot and not just get lucky in a lottery draw. Then for NBC to focus on someone that got in by lottery just seems wrong to me. My opinion. This is the Championships of Ironman and for someone to not qualify by doing an Ironman just does not seem right. I really think that everyone that races in Hawaii should qualify.
I think they should focus on the people that work 50 hours a week, has three kids, gets up at 4am to swim, rides at 8pm in the garage in the middle of winter and still gets to Hawaii. That to me is more of an interesting story.
OK, you want more race coverage? Then we have to tweak the rules a little. How about some more bike crashes? That gets good coverage with the Tour. Lets make “rubbing” legal. Put a little hurt on guy riding next to you. We could also spice up the swim by letting loose some sharks behind the pack. That would be fun to watch! Lets face it, TV wants to show something where someone may get hurt or die, like FootBall and NASCAR.
I just sent a note to a friend that I absolutely must not repeat here. I won’t do it. No! Slap my hand!

Hi M
If that guy doesn’t die within the year, I’ll lose faith in the ironman and all it stands for.
All It Stands For: A day out for the inmates, patients, and ol’ folks.
The one good part of the whole thing: the Major’s description of triathlete’s as tofu-eating, body-shaving, skinny fellows in lycra.
(I will not post this…I won’t do it…control…control!..oooops
