Narcotics

I’ve posted before abut my bride and her troubles with her back. Well, her back is fixed and now the hard part, withdrawal.

Anyone have any advice? She was given a cocktail of “other” drugs to help her through, but they leave her totally wasted and confused. Anyone gone through narc withdrawal?

good luck, no real advice but my sister has been addicted to prescription narcotics for a few years now. she is in total denial as is my brother in law.

Glad to hear the problem is fixed. Last I remember hearing was that you two had pretty muched resigned yourselves to a life of narcotic dependence.

No suggestions for the withdrawl, but after what youve dealt with, you two should get through this in no time.

Long story short:

My son had nerve pain after surgery. Pain management doctors put him on narcotics for a couple of weeks and at one point said it was psychological. Surgeon stayed in touch with us during the whole thing (former Navy doctor). Finally he said he thought he should go back in and check for nerve damage. Found nerve damage and neurosurgeon repaired. Pain subsided immediately. Son had withdrawal symptoms. Pain doctors said not possible but gave us a cocktail to help anyway. Cocktail seems to have done same to my son as your wife. We called the surgeon back. He told us if it were his son, he would take him off everything. We did. It was rough for 6 days and slow for another three weeks. He is better now. It is a sample size of one.

Good luck.

I have had a couple of friends go through chemical dependence issues. It isn’t easy (as I’m sure you know) but possible. I think one thing that akes it rough is that it tends to wreak havoc on personal relationships. Obviously, you and your wife are confronting this as a team and seem to be openly communicating about it. That seems good to me.

I think that it would be a good idea to find a dependence counselor or some kind of therapy program.

I guess I’m in for a long road. She has been off the oxy since Friday and has been OK except for her being “stoned” all the time. I guess all I can do is stand by her and hold her hand. She was on so much oxy her recovery is gonna be tough.

OK, I’ll hold her hand and watch her. Best I can do.

Her goal. NYC marathon 2014 if she can get a slot.

I will keep you and your wife in my prayers. I don’t know what cocktail they have given your wife but ours included sublingual morphine. We stopped everything cold turkey, including the cocktail.

My son shook, quaked, rocked, had leg tremors. Needed to use a wheelchair. Looked like hell. We took turns staying awake next to him for fear that he might stop breathing at night (when he could sleep). It was a nightmare. But it ended. This was in seventh grade. He is a sophomore in college and playing defensive end now.

Let us know how it goes.

p.s. Second opinions are good things.
