I have a creaking coming from somewhere on the bike. I have checked my chainrings, and they are tight. I notice that it creaks while I am just coasting and not steering at all, and it is a periodic creak. This leads me to believe that it is associated with the wheels. I can get it to happen when I walk with the bike and put a lot of weight on the front end. I think it might have something to do with my spokes on my front wheel. If I try to wiggle the spokes, I can get some of the them to make a similar noise. It appears that they may be shifting where they connect to the hub. Does this sound like a reasonable explanation? Also, how do I fix it if this is the problem? I don’t have a truing stand, and I’m a bit afraid to muck with the spokes without one. Who can help me?
What kind of bike is doing this mysterious creaking? I had a very mysterious creak, mainly under load, on my Kestrel KM40, carbon frame - checked everything, again and again - including lub where the spokes cross each other and electrical tape on the seat stays/seat post clamps. Turned out there was a hair line thin crack in the head tube area of the frame. Kestrel took care of it.
2002 Cervelo One. I’m pretty sure it’s the spokes, but I’m taking her in tomorrow.
Guys, If you have carbon forks you may want to try spread a thin layer of grease on the bottom of the forks (where the fork and wheel skewer meet). Often the metal on carbon causes a creaking noise sounds crazy but its true - good luck!

Did I fix the problem Jack? The outer locknuts on those wheels may have loosened as well and might creak after some serious side load. I hope your ride has quieted down, and as I said before, we’ll charge you when we know the problem is gone.
Enjoy this 80 degree weather finally!

I hope so, I didn’t get out yesterday since it was raining when I got home from work. Thanks for fixing it on the spot, I was concerned I would have to leave the wheel a couple of days, which would have been tight since I leave tomorrow for Lake Macatawa Triathlon in Holland. I’ll bring it back in if it makes any more noise in case those locknuts are loose, except I’m not so sure I can generate any “serious side loads”, none the less any serious loads period.
