Myrtle beach - where to ride?

anyone know of good road routes in/near myrtle beach?

I spend a bunch of time at Myrtle Beach. There seems to be plenty of places to run, but riding down there is sketchy. I always bring a trainer along, especially during the vacation season. I love to go there in the winter too. It’s a lot less crowded. Just the locals and the golfers.

When I do ride at MB, I ride on Ocean Blvd from the north end to the south end a couple of times. It’s important to go early. I go at first light, and get off the road as soon as possible. This is important more in the summer than the winter though. Also going early means that it’s less windy. Once the sun comes up and warms the ground it gets pretty windy.

Anyway, be careful!

it’s been a long, long time since I’ve been there but it seemed that we were able to ride inland away from the coast. i have fond memories of a sprint tri, can’t remember the name, but I won it and set the course record.

One of our bike club members has a condo at MB and rides in the area quite often. They seem to have a pretty active bike club down there that he rides with. You should call the bike shops when you get there and see what the local ride schedule looks like. As mentioned above, you want to go inland to ride. The MB area (especially in summer) is a traffic nightmare.

I’ll be down there (in Garden City) next week, but I’m not bringing a bike. I plan to get in a week of run focus, maybe a couple of ocean swims.
