My triathlon days are over

Hola friends! Like the title says, I’m done. My ankle injury that won’t go away added to the desire to make different advances in my life have lead me to the decision to leave the sport. I had many lofty goals for this year & beyond that will have to be laid to rest.

I’m not saying that I won’t return to the sport. I some day want to race an IM but that may have to wait until I am much older and can no longer compete for the title. I have too much competitive fire to just do it for fun. I will still swim for a workout because I love to be in the water and will probably do some cycling commuting but running is where I am going to focus. I hope to get into shape enough to not be embarrassed this winter indoors season in the 200, 400 & 800. Over the summer I will be doing a whole lot of body shaping and change the way my legs like to react.

So it’s been fun kids, I may or may not be on the board here. I still want to coach and feel that I have a TON to offer people so that may draw me back, but for now I need to change my focus and get a leg up in this world.

Need gear? I will be posting almost all the cycling crap that I own starting with my CERVELO R2.5 in the classifieds so keep a look out.

Nick, no shit from you ok buddy?

The rest of you, PISS OFF!!! (Hey, what did you expect form me? Any other sign off would be out of character)

Seriously, I’ve hade a great time and wish you all the best season of your life.

Peace,

Matthew Ward

Well, miss you.
What kind of shape are you going to be takign on? Bodybuilder? The chicks sure seem to dig those.

Are you going to TSR any of your shag?

I’m not questioning your decision but I am just curious what kind of ankle injury keeps you from biking but allows to you run sprints on an indoor track?

You will be back in two months. Your body heals when you least expect it (for me anyway). Don’t sell any of your stuff, you will need them later this summer/fall.

aren’t you the one with the broken bone in your ankle? and it was the running that did it? hmmm…

come on woofie. this doesn’t make sense.

This is just like when I say, “Ya know, I’m not eating any more fast food!!, EVER!!!”
.

Now will you finally tell us your gf’s wrestling alias?!?!?!?!

huh???

Giving up triathlon to focus on training for 200s, 400s, and 800s on a bum ankle?

Good luck in whatever you do.

I’ve benefitted lots from your posts.

Thanks!

I Jacked my ankle playing B Ball. I does keep me from and long distance running. It’s a strange injury. I can ride on it but I cant sprint or do anything out of the saddle very hard. The pulling up bothers it and it swells like a mofo after. I seem to be able to do things like jump and sprint…short power movements…but slower running bugs the hell out of it. Whatever.

My training for the first few months will be mostly in the weight room, on cardio machines and doing as many plyos as I can to reshape the body to handle the track this fall when I’ll start real sprint training. I’m guessing that by then the ankle will be OK.

Like I said, I just cant do tri related stuff for fun. I have too much competitive desire for that. I may be back, but for now I need to lay it down and move on with my life. I hope to get engaged this summer(soon as I can get the ring… those fuckers are expensive!) and will be picking up an agent in July for modeling and acting. Dont know where I’ll be because of that and trying to find ways to tote my bike around the world and find pools and all that shit just wont work. I can take 400m training any place I go.

I’ll never give up my girls name!! Might post a pic though…hmmmmmmmmm…this is all you get of her!!! http://tinypic.com/5pflgj

Got it…you’re right…strange injury.

BTW, that girl is HOT…

Here’s the rest of the pic:

Tough decision to make. Curious…what are your times for 200, 400, and 800? The 400 is my favorite race. Good luck in your transition!

Dude, I have been carefully inspecting that picture, but I can’t for the life of me figure out what could possibly be missing from the photo…looks like everything is there to me.

Havent run them since 9th grade. Cant remember my 200 time, never ran the 800, but went 10.98 in the 100, might have been a fluke, normally was @ 11.2-11.4 and my 400 was around 56 I think. Been A long time. I hve NO CLUE what I might be able to get to now. Thats the great part, no pressure to win, just want to have a good time and keep fit.

You had/have good speed…also curious what your best open 5k run is? I don’t have the bike mileage in my legs, so this year is about building up for my first du next year and having fun instead of hating myself during it. Curious about your times b/c I run a 53 400 and wondered what other ppl who come from a somewhat similar sprinting background have done.

Glad to hear you are looking forward to your future. Triathlon can be quite distracting, it’s ok to move on.

See you in Kona in 15 years?
