I have my TIVO set up to record all programs with triathlon in title or description. Its pretty cool. The other day it recorded the ITU age group championship on OLN. I was pretty excited to see this as most of the times it says it recorded an ITU event, I get rodeo or hunting instead. This time it actually recorded a triathlon. Well, excitement for nothing. Did anyone else see the show. I have to say it was terrible. They did not cover the race. They profiled about a half a dozen people and it appeared that most were beginners. This was the age group championship?
There must have been a programming error for the last two events as my Tivo did not record what was given as program info. However, I have been doing this for a couple of years and find the OLN stuff really cool.
The coverage was especially bad for this event. It is too difficult to show a wave start event on TV. Who are they racing against…
They did cover two ITU races earlier in the season that had a mass sprint of about 5 people with 300 m remaining. That was cool.
Yeah same thing happens to me. OLN is pretty bad about sticking to its programming, at least wrt triathlon. Didn’t watch the one you are talking about yet, but I’ve enjoyed most of the ITU World Cup races that I’ve seen. Those people can FLY!
i also use the key word “Ironman” just in case.
they showed some grandma who was hoping to finish… a family that included the dad who had not run 6 miles for months and had hip surgery and looked as though he was better off walking… a guy from South Africa who was “hoping” to finish.
I don’t know about you, but I like to see people I can learn something from. I want to see some studly athletes. No offense to grandma. I just could not believe that they put that on TV.
I guess I will have to give it another chance as this was the first ITU program I watched.
yeah, I watched the same thing on my TIVO. My friend competed there too and said you were supposed to turn in a wacky story about how you got there and they’d film you for the entire event. Apparently they got in. How about that aussie Mark Martin? Damn, dude he was smoking. Such a nice bike too, Isaac Joule Zipp 999’s…
It was pathetic.I caught most of the ITU regular season a couple of months ago and that wasn’t bad but this was a joke…if the aim was to attract more people to the sport by going the diversity route then it was a garbage attempt…nice story re the south african doctor and the brit educated/representing HK bloke as well as the unpronouncable surname family but really…any danger of getting some real results? Here endeth the rant.
I set up my Tivo to record anything with “triathlon” as a keyword. One day I got home and saw that it had recorded the show “Blind Date”, a show that is somewhat less moronic than ElimiDate. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why that show got recorded. Then I hit “Info” on the show and realized that one of the girls was going out on a date with a guy who does triathlons.
Another time, it was supposed to record IM Canada, but the show ended up being a show about Bull Riding, and this infamous nasty bull named Bodacious. I ended up watching it anyways and I found it to be interesting. It also had me questioning why people think that people who do triathlons are masochists, when it is relatively tame compared to bull riding.
It would have missed the Hawaii Ironman if you didn’t also have “ironman” as a wishlist keyword. Not all triathlons apparently have the word “triathlon” as the key. I noticed that when checking the “to do” list a few days before the Kona broadcast. If I hadn’t made the adjustment I would have missed it.
Beware - it also records “Publix” triathlons, cartoons with the word triathlon, Arrested Development episodes with triathlon in them, oprah and triathlon, and so on, so on…
Hey i watched that too. It was interesting. All those rodeo people talking about a bull and the way they were anthropomorphizing that bull was very interesting to me.
I have to agree with you that triathlons are tame by comparison, although i have to say that I don’t have any desire to watch any other bull riding after this show. I will give full credit to anyone who has the cojones to get on a bull though.

Yeah, maybe we should be giving poor people wetsuits and Cervelos, too.
You need to change the main category to “sports”…then it won’t record all the other stuff. This is especially important if you set-up a wishlist with “marathon” in as the keyword. Also, you need to make sure you have the regional sports networks that you don’t receive eliminated from your list of channels (Fox Sports for example) or else you will miss a lot of things due to conflicts or things like that.
