My thoughts on Schiavo (or however you spell the name)

I have had hospice experience, and the rules may be different in every state for all I know, but isn’t the purpose of a hospice to make a person’s last days comfortable? How long was Terri in that hospice? I did not think hospices did life support, just manily made a person comfortable. I know from my experience (I have had a grandparent and watched a few friends die over the years) that there is no wrong amount of Morphine for a patient, unlike when a person is NOT in a hospice situation where only so much pain killer can be dispensed per hour. A hospice patient could conceivably O.D. themselves a fatal dose, as long as it is under some form of supervision.

I would like a non-political discussion, as I am not going to argue politics. I just want to be clear as to how all of this works. in this particular case.

That is my experience with hospice as well. I always thought hospice and feeding tubes and other treatment were contradictions.

Ultimately, all decisions are local.

That’s what I thought. hmmm…

My understanding is that they removed the feeding tube at the hospital, and moved Terri to the hospice because they have experience helping patients through that. The parents want her taken back to the hospital to have the tube reinserted.
