Probably OT, but I just have to share with someone and my co-workers don’t get it. They only talk kids sports if it is football or basketball
My son just finished his first swim season- 7th grade. He hasn’t had any formal swim training since he was about 6 years old, so he started the season swimming the 50 free. In his last meet the coaches put him in the 200 free and he placed 3rd, about 3:15. This is the event I used to swim, so I was so proud to see him swimming it. Oh course, he hated it, but I am hoping it will grow on him!
Great job! I think we all have stories about how our co-workers, friends or relatives don’t understand it when we talk about our triathlon accomplishments. Good for you, and your son.
I know the feeling…only some of my tri friends get it when I tell them my 12 yr old swam a 2:40 min 200yd at the last meet. She kicks my butt in the pool and I love it. All i get is a glimpse of feet and then bubbles…
It was interesting to me to see the State Qualifying times…they got slower as the kids got older. 11-12 yr old girls have freakin’ motors on their butts.
She swam a 1:08min 100yd at the meet before and was disappointed that the second 100 split was such a drop off…and NO, I don’t know where she got the genes to do that. I think she and her coaches were a little surprised too.
What a spaz I am…I read the chart wrong on the qualifying times…they dont’ get slower as they get older.
2:40 is 20 seconds OFF State Qualifying times…those little dudes/dudettes are FAST. If only i could reverse the clock and learn to swim as a youngster, not as a 36 yr old…
2:40 is 20 seconds OFF State Qualifying times…those little dudes/dudettes are FAST. If only i could reverse the clock and learn to swim as a youngster, not as a 36 yr old… I swim about as fast as I was when I was 12, and last summer I was 21st of 508 in the swim at the Steelhead Half Ironman. Shows you just how slow just about all triathletes are at swimming.
