The main lid is from a rubbermaid sip bottle where the threaded neck and flange was cut from the bottle and shoved inside the aero bottle so when the lid is threaded on it seals. Yes it is not a quick fill but it is easy to do and there is no mess.
I found the straw hole still leaked so I cut the hole big enough for a 1/2" threaded white pvc adapter (home depot) to fit through. From the inside of the bottle i put a rubber washer and cut a 1/2" female-female adapter to create a lock ring and tightened it together.
A little silicone on the black cap that fills the third hole and now I get no leakage/splashing/gross sticky mess.
Total cost was about $10 and 45 minutes of time
I can still fill the bottle on the go, I may add some fishing line to the lid in case I drop it on the go
Thanks for posting. I will try the modifications as you suggest. I stopped using my aero bottle because of the splashing, however, I do miss it on sprints and Olympics.
That’s very neat and all, a clever solution to an annoying problem.
(Why the new interface for the straw? That has never been a leak problem for me, at least.)
However, a strip or 2 of clear duct tape keeps my profile aerobottle from leaking, is easy to fill on the fly, and costs hardly anything per use; a roll lasts several seasons worth of use.
Agree. Just roll the net properly and it doesn’t splash/leak. There’s a few continual complaints that always appear on ST and if you’d just use what comes with the devices correctly the problem would be fixed. I don’t get it sometimes.
So you don’t use the thinner straw with the wider straw? I just got the bottle on my bike, and I was told to use the straws in concert with each other. The wider straw doesn’t even want to fit in the hole without some finnagling. I can’t see how you would have any leaks there.
Of course if you fill it to the upper lip of the bottle it’s going to splash outof the fill hole or straw hole. The bottle holds like 26 ounces filled to the top. That means you’d have to carry a honkin water bottle on your frame to get it that full. A normal 20 ounce bottle and you should have no problems with splashing. But I guess if you want to carry “MONGO” bottles in order to fill your aero bottle to the rim that’s alright as well. It just seems a little unnecessary to me.
I’m not sure what people are talking about “Rolling” but I always completely ignore the directions. Take the yellow thing out, unroll it, stretch and mash it together like a big ball then cram it back in. Rarely does mine splash and good luck trying to get it back out. Sure isn’t “Popping out” in a race.
After looking at the pics more closely. Please tell me that’s a joke What in the world is that piece on your straw hole for? For the life of me I can’t figure out what you’d need that for. The cap on the lid? OK. I’ll give you that one because 4 out of ten complain about it. But the straw adaptor?? You are making this way way more harder than it needs to be.
Please tell me that’s a joke … You are making this way way more harder than it needs to be.
Yep…way too difficult. It’s a lot easier to buy an NXT Jetstream bottle and never worry about anything EVER splashing out of the top. Or worrying about the bottle breaking on you like my last two Profiles. Way easier.
