My personal PED story

PED=purchase-enhancing drinks in this case, not performance-enhancing drugs.

here goes in reverse chronological order:

received an email from my LBS confirming and thanking me for my purchase order of the new P2.

I had an extra glass of wine the night before, and emailed the LBS owner to pull the trigger on the new P2 for me.

I decided I could almost afford the new P2 with what I’d saved up but couldn’t quite muster the cojones to do it.

I sold a bunch of fancy wine that I don’t particularly enjoy (but kept all the Champagne!)

I emailed the LBS owner to find out the sizes and specs available for the new P2.

I read the ST thread about the new P2 about ten times.

My loving wife gave me $250 in a new checking account called the “Bike Fund” for Christmas.

That must have been some fancy wine…

I’m not going to throw any wife under the bus for making a bike fund, but “fancy wife” is $5000 for Valentine’s day, not $250 for Christmas. Brother needs the bike for this season.

what are you currently riding and replacing with the new steed?

I thought the story was going to go…and I drank to much wine last night and in a drunken haze ordered a P2. I don’t remember ordering it but in my in box this morning was a thank you for your order from my LBS. I told my wife I don’t remember ordering it. I do hope I ordered the right size.

Not that, that has ever happened to me.

Ha! I had too much wine and signed up for Savageman once! In the morning, I thought I’d made a horrible mistake…but sometimes: drunk fingers make good on sober intentions!

This is my first TT bike. All races so far have been done on road bike w/ FF saddle and borrowed airstryke clip-ons.

Quite an upgrade.

a very good upgrade at that too. congrats!

I kinda enjoy riding my old Ti tri bike as I pass guys on their fancy bikes. I could go out and spend 10k on a bike I ride 400 miles a year, but I don’t really think the bike will make me that much faster. Maybe 2 minutes over a 40k TT so I’d rather spend the money on a family vacation and keep them happy. Then I can race another day. Maybe someday I will pull the trigger I don’t want to be the guy getting passed by a guy on a steel road bilke.

Enjoy tyhe new ride!!

Hate to tell you this but there are LOTS of people who could pass you on an old bike. I think it depends on who you are trying to pass,or who is passing you. I never think because i am passing someone on a training ride that they are slow, could be a recovery day, fun day, sick, start of ride, end of ride.

I agree with your conclusion: spend money the way it will bring the most utility. I disagree with your premise. Your barometer for success is being faster than people who suck.

I stopped reading when you said wine…
