My package is sagging

So I finally bought a bentobox for all my grub at IMLP and it just doesn’t sit evenly on the top tube. Kind of hangs to the right, which is alright except my leg hits it when I get out of the saddle to climb.

Anyone else have a problem with their unit hanging too far to one side? Besides only whipping it out on training rides and not the race (which I know many of you will recommend) - any ideas on a qucik fix? Are all bento boxes this unreliable and flaccid?

Thanks

Japple

Did it come with the hard plastic inserts for each end?

I had to cut mine down - this keeps both ends upright.

When putting it on the bike - make sure that both velcro adhesives on the top tube are done first - TIGHT - then use the front two.

Will never sit perfectly straight - but pretty darned close

when using a strap on, you may find that it hangs to one side or the other, try some velcro
.

thanks fellas - excellent advice from both of you.

I modified the two hard plastic supports by cutting a semicircle (matching the profile of my top tube) in the bottom edge of both. Now the bento box sits flush against the bar and does not move away from vertical.

Excellent idea. I was thinking of putting some sort of PVC insert that was the diameter of the top tube but your approach makes much mroe sense. Thanks alot.

“when using a strap on” Is that a good idea when you are on a bike?

we should give out awards for such responses.

I had that problem too at first. Just try super-super-cinching the 4 velcro straps on the bento box - with a couple iterations - it will stay in place.

While you have the plastic pieces out, I’d suggest trimming (rounding) the top corners a little bit. The plastic is pretty sharp, and if you knee is hitting them at all you’ll wind up with a decent cut by the end of an IM bike leg. Ask me how I know…

Yes. I tend to hang to the left…oh, you mean the Bento Box. Never mind.

yeah, I got a nice big scratch on my leg Sunday that prompted this thread…

Don’t use the plastic piece nearer the stem.

Make sure the bottom stem velcro is tight.

Vendor Warning.

Switch to the Jandd Stem Pack. It doesn’t have the plastic inserts. It’s made of Dupont Cordura® and lined with vinyl for added stiffness and strength. Available at www.jandd.com.

The Candian distributor is www.cdisports.com.

No more scraped knees, great fit, washable, and long lasting.

Saw a lot of them while participating in the Peterborough 1/2 IM Yesterday.

Best way to trim the plastic inserts is to use the ‘cooter cut’. Two oval cuts on each end of the insert.
