My nipples are En FUEGO (not OT)

OK, so I went for a nice long run this am, and it was a tad chilly but not too bad, 40 degs. So, I eschewed the wind vest and gloves, and got on with it.

When I got done, I took off my shirt, and my nipples were hurting. I’ve had this happen before to some extent, but never like this. Then, I jumped in the shower, and it was like electrodes were attached to 'em, unbelieveably painful when the water hit me. Felt like somebody had taken belt sander to 'em.

So, my questions are: how do I best avoid this going forward (body glide, duct tape, hot wax? ;-), and, is there anthing I can do now that the damage is done so they hurt less now? Anybody got any tips for my nips?

This has to be the lamest training “injury” I’ve ever gotten.

band-aids, applied pre run.

I’ll let you in on a secret my good man.

Lots of salmon-flavored whipped cream. Chicken or beef flavors will work too. Apply liberally to the body. Lie down. Close your eyes and imagine a beautiful woman. Then call Murphy over…

Apply chap stick to nipples pre run. Then run.

That will be $85.00 please.

Pasties.

To heal, slather on some Neosporin.

So last year Record10 inadvertantly freeze-dries a critical part(s) of his lower anatomy thanks to poorly maintained cycling tights and now this year, over the last few weeks I keep read various posts about slowtwitchers living in the cooler climates possibly training sans suitable protection. What is it with the Slowtwitch crowd?

bandaides and neosporin now…nip guards for the future.

That’s to remind you the pain women suffer after a few weeks of brest feeding.

This is never discussed but that’s why old folks move to Florida from the northern climes. Seriously, your problem can be fixed with a tight fitting race top or a race singlet such as Desoto; loose clothing is the main problem. But if something is moving back and forth a tight lycra will stay right with it. That’s how I do it. Duct tape works if you cover the middle with something like kleenex (so you don’t rip the tip off when removing). Or there’s this which I’ve never tried… http://www.nipguards.com/...here I found bloody pre-nipguard pictures and even some nipple testimonials!

A little bodyglide on the nipples works well for me.

Just take a small piece of a Band-Aid and cover the tip of the nipple. No reason to cover the entire thing. Just remember that you have them on unless you want to get some stares when you head to the pool. Been there done that…

Neosporin and make sure you wear an undershirt or you will look like you are lactating. Unfortunately, been there done that…

I used to do a lot of 4-5 hr trail runs and would come back with a couple of blood stains on my shirt sometimes. If you don’t want to wear something tight, I found Patagonia silk weight capilene shirts work great because they’re nice and smooth and are my standard winter running shirt now. They also make a good undershirt for cycling.

This plagued me for a long time when I started running marathons, the problem is loose fitting clothing bouncing up and down sanding the nips off, if you dont want to buy all new running gear you can use waterproof first aid tape.

I have run whole marathons in the rain with this setup and it has never failed me.

Ring.

Asics makes a really soft, thin athletic type running top. I even wear it under my other stuff on colder days.

Also, keep your upper body still when you run.

Bodyglide works but after a awhile you get these dark spots on your lighter colored coolmax running shirts. Tried to get them out, well my wife was nice enough to try, but we couldn’t.

one vote for hot wax and duct tape. Duct tape comes in various colors (even clear) these days.

oh wait, nipples, bleeding–sorry know nothing about that (guy friends use those nip guards).

To fix abrasions (ie saddle discomfort, running discomfort), have used diaper rash ointment on just about any body part you can imagine (forget the bodyglide), and of course vasoline ( just an fyi: feet, second skin by Spenco and duct tape). For healing…NEOSPORIN stat. If you haven’t already, either buy, grow an aloe vera plant, that is magic.

You could try wearing a bro or a manzier.

Nipguards work well. Very sticky…I’ve had trouble with band-aids that come off…although the NexCare ones are pretty good.

Anyway, Nipguards will do the job. Cons: 90 cents a pair. But for one long run a week, not too bad.

wear bandaids off and on. I usually build up callused nipples by midseason…

brother bonk

I have nothing to add except this is a really funny thread and “brother bonk” has a great handle.
