Last week I went to our landfill to dump my trailer of a palm tree I cut down for a customer. Near the yard debris area is where people toss old and broken bicycles. Normally it’s these Wal-Mart “Next” bikes. But this time there was this 1989 Peugeot. The rear and front der were working fine and moving, brakes were as well. The only thing missing was the seat post ( rare 24mm) and the spokes were cut on the rear wheel. So I said what the hell, lets build it. So this is what I did. FYI!!! I am not making this a fixie. Just a good solid training SS. I live on the beach in FL on the flats. Hope you like it.
Did something simliar about 4 years ago. Grabbed a 1988/89 Schwinn that had been sitting in some “woods” not far from my house for at least several years. Stripped it down, repainted it, recylced some parts, did some careful shopping at the season ending sales at Performance and Nashbar, and got it ready to go for under $250. Some days it is just my favorite bike to ride, don’t know why it just feels right…and there is not a hint of carbon fiber on it. Requires a lot of explaining on group rides, but most people dig the down tube shifters.
My first road bike looked like the pick above: way too big! The seat was all the way down and I could barely reach the bars and pedals. I never “grew into it”
