My new C-50

After much debate (some here) I decided to go with the C-50. Came down to this or R3-SL or Look 595. This one was the best fit for me (shorter TT), plus I had another older steel Colnago that I still ride as a fixie and still enjoy so…Took it for a first ride today and came back with a big smile.

It was also a switch back to Campy after 10+ years of Shimano on my other bikes. Not sure why I did not do that before, probably wheels and cassette compatibility held me back.

For those interested in the details of the build:

61cm C-50 WXIB color
Record compact 50/34 grouppo
King headset
Campy Neutro ultra wheelset
Elite carbon cage
Colnago seatpost carbon (not much of a choice as this is a 28mm, a small negative)
Fizik Alliante carbon saddle (first try for this and I really liked it)

Pic doesn’t work
.

OK I fixed the picture I think.

That is a beautiful bike! Congrats to you. I’m debating over whether to purchase a C50 or Soloist Carbon. It’s a difficult choice.

2 pretty different bikes really.

Thanks, probably the C50 compares more to the R3 than the SLC. The SLC will be less confortable that the C50 or the R3 but a bit more aero. The other factor for me was that I tend to keep my bikes and this one is a keeper.

The problem I’d have with Colnago ownership is getting that first scratch. The paint are works of art, literally. Almost think they should be hanging on the living room wall.

A scratch… What an horrible thought 48 hours after getting this bike! I am not sure of the durability of the paint job, it looks pretty solid but time will tell.

I had a C40 for 11 seasons and it didn’t scratch at all, nor has my C50 over two seasons so far. I’ve seen comments on other fora about fragile Colnago paint jobs, but my own experience has been excellent on both carbon and steel Colnagos.

Very nice. I like the build.

Congrats on making the correct choice. Now… you need better bars (OS). White saddle, white tape. At least shorten the section that’s taped, so maybe halfway between the hoods and the stem only. THEN you are talkin’ Italian style!

In the words of Borat, “SEXY TIME!”

I’m new here, but let me try this:

Your cranks should line up with the chain stays, put the chain on the big ring, and rake the leaves.

Well, it is an OS bar, Deda OS shallow drops (or should I say Italian drops), they are the style bar I prefer and not many companies are doing them anymore. I was not too keen on carbon bars as this is the most exposed portion of the bike in a crash or simply if it falls in the garage or something. So I think I have a better piece of mind with an aluminium bar. Other reason was that I am not sure a carbon bar that can take clip ons with traditional shallow shape exists

White tape… looks good… but I actually plan to ride this bike and it gets ugly really fast. But foe the picture maybe I should have done that!
