My new Argon 18 E-114 (pics)

I was a little nervous about getting this one. I generally am wary of bikes that have such “funky” front end setup.
Luckily the bike fits AWESOME. I am very excited about racing it in 2 weeks. The oneness front end turned out to be very adjustable (more than i thought it would be).
The bike was a bitch to build though…Argon 18 please send a manual with this bike. I havent tricked it out yet, but am planning to. The bike is incredibly stiff, NO flexing this bad boy. It absorbs the road very well. If you are a gearmasher then this is definately a bike worth test riding. She is a bit of a piggy though…race weight comes in at around 19 lbs.

FYI - Argon 18 recently put a PDF file on their website about the adjustability ranges.

If any one has any questions or want more detailed photos let me know. I havent seen too many of these out at the races.

Hands down the coolest looking bike I have seen in a while. Wish I had the money AND could get low enough to use it!! Best of luck.

Thats very nice I like the look of the front end.How about a full bike drive side picture?

Adam, can you throw up a big side view photo if possible- I’d like to see the overall look.

Adam,

Nice looking machine, can you measure the distance between the top of the seat stays, where they attach to the seat tube, vertically to the top of highest point of the top tube? Just the vertical component of that distance, should be about 140-180mm…

Thanks.

-SD

From the stay to the top of the seatpost clamp its 185mm. From the stay to the top of the top tube its 135mm. The bike is a size medium and I ride at 75cm saddle height.

first question:

how do you put on a longer stem? is one available?

Is the seatpost slid into an alloy sleeve in the carbon frame or is it 100% carbon.

torque specs on the seat clamp?

Great looking bike. Out of curiosity, since I like to track this, can you let me know what the vertical delta is between the top of the armrests (top of the center of the pad) and top of the extensions (at the shifter point)?

My general theory is that these two points, with chicane-bend extensions, should be approx. equal. It looks like they are, but I’m curious if that’s actually the case.

The system is stemless. You adjust the pads/extensions (which give you a fair amount to work with) to fine tune the reach.
Its definately different…I was able to match up my fit numbers without any trouble.

-Adam

how do you adjust the base bar fore and aft ?

Its full carbon with the clamp being replaceable. Not sure on the torque specs yet.

-Adam

If you have a level line from the top of the pads it would go directly through the middle of the shifter. The bike also comes with another extension that has more of an up angle.

-Adam

Here is an exposed pic of the bolts. The ones on the left adjust the tilt of the bar and the pads on the right are for for/aft adjustments. The basebar is fixed. I was worried about knocking my knees against it when climbing, but its no different than any other bike I have ridden.

Thanks. That’s about what I expected. Do you find this position comfortable? Can you post some pictures of how you hold the shifters?

I had the chance to test ride one in Kona and liked it very, very much. Although I must admit that I didn’t look as aero or fast as Torbjorn.

Further to that, the armrests come with risers. Not tons of upward mobility on them, but some nonetheless.

To the previous question about stem length. No, the stem length is fixed. You have to do all of your adjustments on the armrests. This does limit the adjustability, but there is still a fair amount of play availalbe.

I tend to just lay my hands on top of the bars. I dont “grip” the bars too often. I may try out the other extensions which will place the shifter just above the pad level. They do not have a ski tip option…although I think I rig something if needed.

I don’t think you could fit another sticker on that baby. What’s with all the logos all over the place. I think it loks cool and all, but serious overkill on the branding. It would look so much nicer just jet black without any decals at all.
