I was reading the paper today…and check out the readers comment section…this is where they all try to get on the soap box a tell us about how life it. I have in the past seen a few dumb ass things…but todays, my oh my…classic. Recently there was a big “bust” of a cock fighting ring where some mexicans had a bunch of birds that liked to fight…I guess that is illegal unless you are a crow and a hawk…or something…hell if I know…well…these are some of the comments that were made…
*“Although most people dont know chickens as well as they know dogs and cats, chickens are intelligent, interesting individuals who feel happiness, love, fear and pain just the same. In their natural surroundings, chickens spend their days foraging for food, making nests, roosting in trees, and taking sun baths and dust baths. They form strong family ties and mourn when they loose a loved one.” *
She then goes into the horror of cock fighting…
“the birds suffer broken wings and legs, punctured lungs, and severed spinal cords and even gouged out eyes…”
I used to work for a consulting firm and we did the accounting systems for Tyson back in the early 90s. Best part of the job was the tour of the chicken factory. The chickens are actually killed by electrocutian (sp??). They are hung by their feet, moved assembly-line fashion into a darkened room and dipped into electrified water. The people who work in the kill room had ear-splitting heavy metal piped in, adding to the already eerie atmosphere.
Back to the ignorant paper…I am still shocked that they would even print that…surely someone would have place an add in that space for a buck or two.
But…that was written by “Heather Moore - Sr Writer, PETA” (I only put her name here cause its in the paper anyway). This is EXACLTY why PETA and the other neo nazi like groups are all looked at as cultish idiots by most.
Let see here…“chicken in a tree”…well, I have seen allot of things…I have lived on a couple farms…and have shot more than one chicken with a BB gun. They DO NOT GO IN TREES!!! They can hardly freaking fly, let alone sit in a damn tree…I would sooner expect to see a Wood Duck nesting with a Bald Eagle on a cliff as I would see a chicken nesting, let alone nesting in a damn tree…
“chickens mourn their loss”…what? Is that presuming that someone does not “de beak” them before they peck eachothers eyes out? I dont think a chicken would miss its own head, let alone another chicken…
In any case, this whole “story” has taken time out of my life, more than it deserves…I am now less of a person knowing that the thoughts of a poor treeless chicken may have its family taken from it by the Colonel, or some mexican cock fighters (I love saying that). The news paper had deemed is proper to print such ignorant false shit…and in turn have hundreds of people waste their time on such garbage…this needs to stop nation wide - I think that we should take out all that stupid stuff and put in the word - meaning page from Readers Digest instead…we would all be allot better off…and PETA could just put more naked hot chicks in adds…
All you’re ever going to get out of this thread are chicken stories and chicken jokes. No chance of even provoking a good debate on the merits or lack thereof of cock fighting (I love saying that).
Ever been to a cock fight? It’s not for the squeamish. I’m no animal rights activist, but we’re talking about serious animal cruelty.
For practice, they put little “boxing gloves” on their spurs instead of steel razors and it’s really kind of fun to watch. That ought to be legal, IMO, but I can’t imagine a scoring system.
BillT is absolutely right. I’ve been to a cock fight and its brutal. I would expect a little more from someone who was upset that baby birds were hosed at his house. I’m no a chicken advocate, I actually eat a lot of it. But if you see the suffering these animals go through you may understand. I don’t know about the mourning loss stuff, but the brutal death for gambling is enough…kj
This woman was not speaking directly of the cock fights, but rather chickens on a whole…and 90% was false…I dont feel for any chicken on a farm that is killed for food. That is a far cry from killing chicks with no reason other than pleasure…and Chickens dont live in tress…
