In 25 years of running, I’ve never won anything. Even in the dim and distant past when I was reasonably quick, I was never FOP. I’m now in a small running club out here in Borneo, that has an ongoing 6 monthly series of monthly 5k and 10k races, with prizes for the fastest runners, as well as a handicap series, based on how much you improve your PB over the 6 months.
I came 4th overall in the last 6 months of 5k’s, but as I improved my PB from 26:30 to 21:10 I managed to win the handicap series, which gives me a trophy to keep for 6 months and a medal to keep permanently. Having never scored hardware before, I’m still grinning about it and looking at the trophy sitting on my shelf, and seeing my name on it every time I walk past it.
Oh, and for the next 6 months I’m moving up to the 10k series. Last night was the first run of the new series and I took 5 minutes off my 10k PB, for 48:04. Looks like the training’s working so far.
Just wanted to share with a few people who’ll understand.
Cheers,
Justin.
Congrats. What brings you to Borneo?
Sweet…what are you in Borneo for? My real dad is there often I guess…(he is in Oil).
My wife works for a big oil company, and we move every 3-4 years. So far we’ve done Netherlands, Houston Tx and now Brunei. Who knows where next.

Not Ensco by any chance is it? I would assume that she is not a deck hand…
No, there’s only 1 oil company in Brunei, Shell.
She’s not a deckhand (grins), although I used to work offshore in the exploration business (geophysicist) and I’m in the process of applying to go offshore again, as I cannot get a work permit here, nor can I even get residency. Being a muslim state, they don’t recognise the concept of a man being dependent on a woman, so I am only issued a visitors visa, whereas all the wives here are residents.

Wow…I could never do that…my “real” dad I guess as according to him “runs the rigs”…he has been on Discovery channel and stuff like that. Is not in the US more often than not…and is the reason I cant get a passport. He makes coin though…SUPER nice house on an island in FL for when he is in the US.
