My first DNF (1)

Had to take my first ever DNF today at the Seahorse after my “healed” torn calf muscle was not so totally healed. Training is most of the fun in this sport, but crossing the finish line is a blast too.

DNFs suck, but aggravating an injury is worse. I DNFed at the Napa Half last month due to a hip injury and would have lost the whole season if I struggled to the finish line…

Actually, it wasn’t an option, but I could have scrubbed the season by trying.

You did the right thing. If you had injured it worse, you wouldn’t be doing anything for quite a while, especially if it was a transverse (across the muscle) tear.

T.

I was trying to think about mine, but I had so many to choose from I couldn’t make up my mind

more seriously: racing through injury, unless you are close to the finish line is just plain stupid.

nearly noone makes a living out of the sport, and the last thing you want is to be crippled at 60yo because you pushed through an injury in a stupid sport noone cares about (so to speak…just mean, hey, it’s so confidential…you’re not playing the superbowl)

That stinks.

Brutal hot today too. The temp readings in our cars were 92-93 and that was as we were pulling into K-Zoo to grab a bite.
