My first bike build up from scratch

Got the frame from slowtwitch, a new old stock 2002 soloist aluminum. All the parts are internet scrounged for cheap deals or stuff I had lying around.

19.2lbs as pictured.

the only sin here, I think, is the mismatched water bottle cages =)

Rode it a good bit this weekend. verra nize. my first nice road bike!

May I be the first to congratulate you and inform you that your seat is too high.

Good on ya! It’s great to take pride in such a creation. I like the blue carry through from frame to bar tape to side wall - clean, elegant.

It isn’t, I’m just too tall, or my frame is too small =)
.

Congratulations. I have been a baby about attempting my first build. I always liked that blue/black cervelo paint scheme and the other blue hits you picked up do it justice. Nice.

Your windows are too low?

Seriously. But the bike is fantastic!

that is MUCH NICER than my first build…wanna trade? Just kidding. Enjoy it - that is a great looking bike

great looking bike enjoy it !

A lovely example of recycling (pun intended). But where is the rear disc?

Nice build, colors are clean.

I’m in the process of building my first bike. Road bike too. I went the used parts route as well, except I looted them from my Tri bike, got some used STIs just so I could put SRAM Red on my tri bike.

Just built up my first bike also, awesome feeling on that first ride.

I just need to switch the components. I’m a little hesitant b/c I don’t have much of an idea what I’m doing. I’m just going to “figure it out”.

The first ride will either be awesome or terrible if it falls apart.

Jackmott - Once you build up your own bike, you will never buy a complete bike again. I bought a complete bike back in 1994 and have not bought a complete bike since. I think I have built up about 40 bikes since then from the frame up and it is IMHO more satisfying.

Good job!

I built one up last year the same way. For about $600 total I have an ultegra road bike with a fuji aluminum/carbon frame. Everyone should build a bike this way.

great job! To my eye the three blues clash slightly but bikes are for riding :).
