Over the Thanksgiving Holiday, I spoke with my sister’s husband. He ran the 800 (on scholarship) for a Division I University in Texas in the 1990’s.
I had been talking to him about a foot injury that I could not identify the source of injury (repeated micro trauma). I visited one Podiatrist, one Massage Therapist, one Physical Therapist, and two Sports Medicine Doctors- to no avail.
I told him that I found my answer by corresponding with people on ST. He said that when he was running that he had an enigmatic quad injury and that at a track meet he started talking to a guy from Sweden who ran track for a competing university and that through that Swede that he obtained the solution that allowed him to find the source of his quad injury.
My brother-in-law said that he wasn’t surprised that people would be able to better identify what ails them through improved communication via the internet.
Thanks again ST for all of your help, and may you too find someone who understands your physical woes from experience where that experience can then be applied to alleviate your ailment.

Ya, I think the science of training is way behind the actual field level experience of athletes. In 20 yrs they’ll be publishing studies documenting things that many of us have suspected for years. For example, I think eventually “they” will conclude that, while walking is better than nothing, running, swimming, cycling, xc skiing, rowing, etc, are MUCH better than just walking. Anyone who thinks of a “brisk” 3 mi walk as a workout is actually in pretty poor shape. IMO, “they” will eventually conclude that something like a 5 mi run, or 1.5 mi swim, or 20 mi bike, 6 days/wk, is the minimum to stay really healthy. The 3-mi walk is for your rest days:)
JOOC, what was the BIL’s best time for 800 m???
