My dog and I will be reunited after a long six-year separation. It’s my fault that it has taken this long, the poor dog.
I had convinced myself that I was incapable to taking care of her due to my fast lifestyle, but who am I kidding? My parents and my sister can’t give her the love she deserves. Visiting her last week in California forced my to own up to my responsibility for her happiness. So I decided to take her back. She’s coming tomorrow!
I am overjoyed but scared at the same time. Last time I had a dog I was in school and had a flexible schedule. Circumstances have changed now. How do you folks juggle a working/training/social life with a dog?
oh congrats!!! Yeah!! It’s definitely difficult!! I work full-time, have school two nights a week and train! I share Hunter with my ex-bf, so that helps a bit, but normally have him Wednesday-Saturday. I have a dog walker come on Thursday’s, so I can workout after work, that’s a HUGE help! It’s definitely a responsibility as I live in a condo and Hunter can only stay in for so long!! Don’t stress about it, you’ll figure out a routine and as soon as you do, Spot will come accustomed as well. Dogs like routine!
Glad to hear it, I’m sure your dog will add as much to your life as mine do for me.
However, the only way I can manage it and my lifestyle is to share the responsiblity with my lovel bride Mrs. Schwingding. Were I single I’d never be able to work full time, train all the time, and give two golden retrievers what they deserve. I’d have to find them a home where they’d get the attention they deserve.
What I would suggest, is if there’s a kid in your apartment complex, ask them first, as that will be the cheapest. I have a service, “dogs on the run” and I pay $17 for 30 minutes!! Pricey, but worth my time for a workout!! I called them and the owner and the girl who would be walking Hunter came over and met him and we just chatted and then yes, I gave them a key. I worked with another place in the past and they did the same thing, came over so we could meet. They also do doggy fieldtrips on occasion, but Hunter hasn’t been able to make one yet due to other committments! Hopefully he can go on one soon! Friday’s he has no walker and basically I walk him super early before work and then drive straight home after work to let him out and you’d be amazed at how long dog’s are able to hold it. I always feel bad, but he never seems stressed when I get home!

OK so it’s a trust thing. Thanks for the advice KK.
hee! hee!! God forbid Mrs. Schwingding ever leaves the picture, but if she does, can I PLEASE be the next Mrs. Schwingding?? :DWell, there can only be one Mrs. Schwingding (at a time), and I’ve already promised someone else the number 2 spot should that ever be necessary, but you two can duke it out (in jello, preferably)
here is the only thing you have to remember: the dog(s) always come(s) first. so, somewhere ahead you, your work, your co-workers, your friends, your family, come your dogs. anybody gets in the way of that heirarchy has to go.
for me, that means Charlee, Moonie and Lucky are first, second and third and I and my friends, my mate, my hangers-on, vendors, customers, must stand in line behind C, M and L. which, if you rearrange the latters, spells CLM. hmm. makes you think. maybe CLM has something to say about this.

It’s nice to hear other people have the same opinion of their dogs that I do of mine, crazy as it may be.
