Took off the 3T Aura Pro bars and replaced them with the P5 bars. I got really lucky as a friend was selling them and we swopped bars plus a bit of cash.
Drilled the frame to reroute the gear cables. I now have full length cables from the shifters to the BB.
The P5 has a “slot” behind the stem so the cables can move freely when you turn the bars. I did not want to cut the P2 to create that slot as this could destroy the frame. I felt ok about drilling 2, 4.5mm holes for the cables but am left with a problem. The special spacers that come with the Aduro bar don’t allow enough movement when you turn the bars. The gear cables prevents the bars turning then routed through the Aduro spacers and into the 4.5mm hole. So I took the Adura spacers off and used conventional round steerer tube spacers. This allows the bars to turn more freely. Anyone have a suggestion on how to get this to work? Perhaps more flexible gear cables would work?
Replaced the stock crank with a 170 Ultegra crank.
Found a used ISM Podium to replace the stock saddle.
I still have to buy an aero brake. I am looking at either the Magura hydraulic TT brake or the TriRig Omega. I can get the Magura front on closeout for about the same price as the Omega.
Buy race wheels.
Get rid of 2cm of spacers. I did not want to cut the stem until I had ridden it and dialed in the fit. With the P5 bars the stem has to be cut to fit under the stem cover. So that’s it so far. A bike that once finished will be close in performance to the new P3 but at 1/3 of the price.
