agree…total pain in the ass…
where do you put the TV when conforming to this dogma? Or is this a raw-dogging-it kinda thing?
No all that time doesn’t include warming up.
It’s exactly like I said, all that stuff takes time for outdoor riding, the more varied and challenging the temps/conditions, the longer it takes to select and put on more stuff and prepare more stuff. The avoiding flats alone is a giant time-saver, I usually get several a year and they are super, super annoying, they make me wish I stayed indoors every time.
The convenience factor is gigantic. Bathroom, easy nutrition access, fans to control temp, no rain or darkness worries, no cars to go super hard on intervals. I have zero doubt I get better results for training when I do it all indoors. But of course, it’s still more fun to ride outdoors on a lovely day, I’ve also accepted that as a major priority and aim to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible given the constraints of life and training.
Best practice is to have your trainer set up in a cold, empty room. No one else allowed in. No TV/music - just 4 empty walls. It means you have maximum amount of time with just our own depressing thoughts. Usually results in quitting the sport.
A friend of mine was training for RAAM. He did a workout where he did a century…on the rollers…facing a wall…in the dark.
(and no, it couldn’t have been completely dark)
(he finished RAAM in 11th place at 10d10h9m)
