“The site is run by a previous board member.”
let us add some specificity. duathlon.com, a very fine site, is run by eric schwartz, very good pro duathlete, who last year was an elite athlete representative. he was one of those making up the majority voting bloc during issues of election rules. this was the bloc that was headed by jim girand and val gattis.
gattis is the board’s president, and steve locke, the subject of the article you mention, is gattis’ competitor for the at-large seat.
otherwise, nice to have you back, bighead. let’s talk about swim times some more when all this is over ![]()
Just did our local big triathlon 2 weeks ago. 1/2 mile swim took me 13:59 which placed me 87th out of 380 men. About what I expected based on my previous swim interval workouts. I know that is not a very fast time but I was happy with it.
This is a very interesting editorial that explains why not to vote for Locke. The question is, why should I vote for anyone else? I can honestly say that I know very little about the other at-large candidate. The little I do know does not seem to make her an exemplary candidate in my mind. I guess this is another reason to vote YES on the petition. No good candidates this year? Wait only a year for a new crop.
BTW, is duathlon.com a commercial site? Does Eric pay USAT for the link? Will you be able to link Slowtwitch to USAT? The reason I am asking all this is that if you scroll down on Eric’s site you find him asking for donations to keep it alive. If it is involved with USAT shouldn’t he have been recusing himself from votes & editorials recommending candidates?

i don’t think he ought to have recused himself. antonin scalia recusing for such reasons is one thing, because he’s a jurist. a legislator is by nature partisan.

Having a link on a site is a benefit for USAT because it brings people to their site. In most cases companies pay for getting a link on a popular site just as Cervelo pays Dan for putting their link on his. In the case of Feds like USAT or ITU, these links are usually provided at no cost as a public service. However, if the site were too objectional to the fed I’m sure they could request the link be pulled and the administrators of the site would have to comply.

Bob,
Duathlon.com is a commerical website. I don’t pay USAT for the link.
You suggest that the candidates aren’t very good. A lot of mud has been slung and a lot of lies have been told, so now a lot of people look dirty, which simply isn’t true. Val Gattis was an excellent President of the Board, and you will be getting a very good candidate by voting for her.

This is an excellent article. Everyone who plans to vote should read it first.
