So where is everyone/anyone staying for Musselman; seems the hotels in Geneva are sold out. Heading to the area for vacation with the family the Sun of the race through the following weekend at a house but we will need to stay somewhere Sat night. Was hoping try and stay where some tri people might be staying that I could catch a lift from race morning to save the family the early trip in to town. any help appreciated - thanks.
For the love of God, do not, do not, do not stay at the “athlete village”. Bare bones at best at that place. Sorry I can’t help with other places, but that place was a nightmare.
I am from east side of Rochester and always drive in the morning of the race. It is an easy drive (about a half hr) and I have never had any problems getting there the past three years. If you want to get even closer I would say stay in either Victor, NY or Canandaigua, NY. Both are close with many hotels/bednbfast and are easily accessible to Geneva. If you have any questions just let me know.
There’s also a couple of hotels in Watkins Glen, thats only about a 30 minute drive as well. See you all up there! The girlfriend is racing Saturday for the sprint, I’ve got the half on Sunday!
My wife and two kids stayed in the dorms at the local college and they were fine. They did have the characteristic dorm smell and a few suspect biological fluids on the walls but they were also on a very nice campus and close to the action. In the morning I just walked down to the parking lot and bummed a ride to the start so my wife and kids could sleep in.
Looks like every hotel and now even the village are sold out.
Anybody camping out? I seem to remember some “unauthorized” tent campers in the parking lot in the past.
State park?
I did the race 2 years ago. The “athlete village” isn’t 5 star, but it had AC, was clean, and warm showers. What else do you need? You can hang out with other athletes or not. And how much time do you spend there anyway? I honestly slept there and that was it. Only 5 minutes from start, Wegman’s is in walking distance along with the lake state park. Beautiful area. Have fun!

Great race though, really fun.
Were you expecting a Hilton? It’s a dorm and it’s cheap. I stayed twice and would do it again in a heartbeat. I did get a unit with AC though. Those dorms were so much better than the ones I had in college, too.
Totally agree with your assessment of the race though. Love Musselman!

I stayed in the dorms, and while I’m not high maintenance at all, I was unlucky enough to get a unit with no sheets and in which the AC was broken. Had one of the worst pre-race nights of non-sleep ever. I wouldn’t take my chances staying there again.
Race was ok. My foot got cut up on the exit of the swim by a mussel. And they ran out of water on the bike course, which really sucked… (it was super hot and muggy)

Understandable. I can think of nothing worse than a hot stuffy sleep the night before a race. That’s the last thing anybody needs. I also wouldn’t do a tent for this reason. If it rains hard or it’s hot you won’t be sleeping.
I’m doing the mini and live east of Rochester, driving in that morning. I would guess there are still hotels and available lodging here. Use google maps, navigate to a zip somewhere between geneva and east rochester and plug in “hotel” and I imagine some available rooms will pop up.
Last year I did Musselman and camped at Sampson State Park. There were some other triathletes there. The bike course goes right past it on the way out and right through it on the way back, which was nice for the family.
Excellent race.
I don’t mean to hijack this thread, so would like it if you all responded to the new thread I’m posting. This is my first time coming up to Musselman, and I’d just like some past impressions of the event - and of the race course. Check the Forum - I’ll title it Musselman Impressions.
