Kentiger dude. Those winter XC ski races are harder than any triathlons that I do…anyway, how else is a 38 year old guy with a 8 year old kid and a wife supposed to sneak in a 13 race year without spreading them out from Jan to Oct. If I did 13 races in a summer, I’d be divorced !
Eric, I hope to do the Ottawa fall colors marathon (or Corning Wineglass) and be at Boston again next spring !
Thanks for the compliment Dev. Although if you look at the results from last year, you’ll see that my time was 7 seconds faster this year and my run was over 2 minutes slower. I’ve had some calf problems that have limited my running so I’ve been working on the swim and bike and I’m carrying 8 or 9 lbs. over my weight from last year. Also, my IM FL time was only 9:27 (hopefully a 9:08 is in the future somewhere once I figure out how to keep my run strong throughout). As for “total stud” … I finished 41st overall which is not in the stud category and way off my pb on that course … hopefully by October 16th I’ll be in “total stud” form.
What I thought was most impressive about the day was the 49 minute run by Miles Stewart … Wow! Also Tereza’s race was outstanding.
Allan, just got back from coaching my son’s soccer team. Don’t know what is harder, getting blown over by the Fauld’s vortex or trying to keep a bunch of 8-9 year old focused during a practice. I do agree that at 41st overall, there are many that are stronger than you, but in our 35-39 age group, where most are juggling work and family life, your achiements are pretty incredible. As for carrying more weight, I’m 3 lbs up on my usual 140 lbs. While this does not appear to be much, its still the weight of two large water bottles and I could feel it on the hills of the bike and run. I was around 2 min slower in each sport this year. When you pare down those 8 lbs you’ll be the 9:08 guy !
Perhaps the wind also had an effect. Either way, I’ll have to work on my run in time for the Peterborough half Ironman in 3 weeks. Next stop though is Tupper Lake in 5 days !
Last year after Muskoka I did a cool down run with Lisa and she cheers like a maniac for everyone coming in or going out on that hilly part of the course. She is awesome.
Allan and the other canucks, thought I would say hi. Haven’t raced at Muskoka since 98 when I moved to Cali. I must say I miss that race series. Congrats on some great races. Its good to see that some of the same faces are still going strong!
Life is good here in Cali. Finished chiro school and have an office in Hollywood. I kind of let my training do for 4-5 years while in school and then last year when we bought a house but once my pants started getting a little too tight I started back with some consistent training last fall. I lost 25 pounds and am back racing again. I did Cali 1/2, Wildflower and Escape from Alcatraz this year (wish I was running like I did back in 98!) I am now looking to do an IM next year and then go to Hawaii. I was going to do IMCDA but, now IMAZ is close enough to drive and we have friends that live in Tempe so it would be much cheaper. It will be much more difficult to train for though as my long Sunday rides would all begin in the dark and cold. (Not Canadian cold anymore but starting a hundred mile ride in the dark when it is 40 degrees still sucks).
