Muskoka - Changes of no wetsuit

I just went to check the forecast for the next days in Muskoka and the weather seems to be good. Sunny and warm for the next days. As anyone swam this past weekend and know the current lake temperature?

The chances for no wetsuit swim for the pro wave seem more and more possible, would this be what the guys need to finally beat the ladies (Muskoka Chase race)?

Being a cold wimp, I hope there is wetsuit. Knowing my competition in Men’s 40-44 I hope that it is a no wetsuit swim, so I can have a 4-8 min lead on some of the bike-run studs. I have to beat these guys with a “balanced attack”. I am not blazing fast in any sport, but I am not slow in any either, so I need some of the blazing fast guys who can burn in one sport to tank in other sports to beat them

Dev…you are no cold wimp!!! I saw you swimming at the Irontour in Ottawa last year when most of us wimps would only put our legs into the water.
Sandbagger.

I’d say the chances are slim/none that the pros will have to swim without wetsuits. I was in Muskoka for a wedding on Saturday/Sunday and the water is still a bit chilly (maybe high 60’s/low 70’s)
I always hope for non-wetsuit swims but that will never happen as an age-grouper, I swear the RD’s take the temp. 20 feet below the surface for some of these races.

i hope it stays wetsuit swim… that will allow me to double the amount of time on your feet from 50m to 100m!

I’m the guy Dev was talking about “burning it in one sport only to tank in the others…” I need all the help I can get.
Are you gonna be in Huntsville Saturday?

I’m always hoping for a wetsuit swim

Ok, I just went to check the rules on their website… “Wetsuits will be allowed at any time the water temperature is 78 degrees or lower.” Well, I guess that answer my question.

I also went to get the information from TC (Triathlon Canada) regulation:

1500m and less: 22c or 71.6
1501m - 3000m: 23c or 73.4
3001m-4000m: 24c or 75.2

Also, this was written:

TC* The use of wetsuits will always be recommended for age group athletes. AWAD athletes may be allowed to wear wetsuits regardless of the temperature.**

Ok, the previous statement from TC pretty much clear the question for Agers but for the PRO there’s still be a possibility based on the feedback of “iteasy”… if the water is realy in the low 70’s currently, hitting 73.4 barrier by the end of the week is a possibility.

I think Itzeasy can burn it up in all three sports…but regardless, the guy has such a huge lead into T2 and he can walk large chunks of the run and still get a kona slot!

no, it looks like i won’t make it up there until Sunday AM. I’ve got a busy day Saturday so i doubt i can get out of town early enough…
and Dev, ya - i know all about that lead that itseazy takes into T2… i learned about it the hard way :frowning:

It is my first time doing this race, How is the swim? Should I expect going slower than my usual 2K pace ?

There have been years that I have felt a bit of a current pushing against us as we come down the river after the loop of the lake. I’ve never really had a stellar swim there so that may just be me making excuses. Take that for what it’s worth.

I’ve also found the swim to be a little on the slow side there. Otherwise, it’s a nice swim.

I actually found it to be quite quick. It was a really nice swim, enjoyed it thoroughly.
