My sister and I just rode the course in preparation for the race this year. A fairly big chunk of South Portage Road was loose gravel, unpaved. There was a sign saying construction but none was taking place. Does anyone know if it will be paved for the race? We are hoping yes… Also, are roads closed or partially closed for this race? There was a lot of traffic on the 35 and 117.
This is a yearly question and the road construction is usually done a week or two before the race. Roads are not closed but there is plenty of signage for drivers and it is a known event so drivers are typically pretty cautious. Plus after the September long weekend things die down a bit up there.
trimuskoka just posted in their facebook page that it should be done before race day
.
I have no idea if they close the roads but 35 is a pretty major Highway so yes there will always be a lot of cars on it.
Thanks for the information everyone. I got a reply from Triathlon Muskoka which assured me that the work would be done by race day. Very impressed that they took the time to respond.
