Muscles used in the Tri-bike position

I’m new to triathlons. I’ve been riding a nice road bike with aerobars for years and now that I have a tri bike I love it. However, someone told me the other day that riding a tri bike takes load of the hamstrings and puts more focus on the quads so you can save them for the run. How is this true?
I remember when aerobars came out and even remember Greg LeMond using them in the Tour de France for the first time. I say that to say, I thought aerobars were meant to make us more…ahhh…aerodynamic. So, does it also save our hamstrings?
I certainly don’t find my pedal stroke is that much different for it would have to be if you’re not using your hams as much. I know that you need to focus on using your hip-flexors while throwing the knees over the handlbars to save the hams, but never heard of the hams being saved by riding aerodynamic.

Thoughts please.
