I will be racing IM Wis. in 06. Sometime before the race, I intend to go to Madison to check out the area and ride the bike course a time or two. Recently, I learned that Multisports (PNF, Huddle, H. Fuhr, etc.) offer a weekend training camp in Madison (and at all/most of the M-Dot race sites), which includes intensive training on the course and IM racing instruction. Sounds like a good way to spend a weekend, but it is fairly expensive ($695-noon Fri. to noon Sunday). I was wondering if anyone had experience with one of these camps and whether you found it be worth the $? Any input will be greatly appreciated.
You might email Joel Filliol (joel - AT - competitionzone.com) to see what the possibility is of an IMWIS camp. The duration is the same as the Multisports.Com camps for his “Iron School” camps (currently Az, CdA, and Canada), and his camps are $395 and the quality of coaching and pro athletes is definitely equivalent. Just a thought. $695 seems like a lot, but not sure what is included.
I will second Rappstar’s post.
Competitionzone.com is offering a wide variety of camps in 2006.
We will have a world class coaching crew and a lot of personalities at the camps.
Please check out our website for more info.
hey - you might want to check your website. i saw this and was checking into the IMAZ camp, but the dates are wrong on your site, methinks.
Hey,
"06 will be my 4th camp on the IMWI course. I kind of fly under the radar at $295 for early reg, $395 afterwards. Price includes a free training plan. Camp includes a 4 hr swim clinic with underwater video, about 4-6 hrs of classroom instruction, coached ride and run on the course. Identical camps and features for AZ, CDA and LP

Regards,
The Camp dates are:
March 3-5th in Tempe!
Thanks!
I’ll second Rich’s camps. While I’ve never attended one I know several local people who have and they are top notch. For the price and what all else is included they can’t be beat.
My training partners and I went in 2005. We loved it. Roch and Huddle are a class act.
One of our original objectives was to ride the bike course, and there are definitely less expensive ways to do that. But then PNF gave a morning-long talk on the mental aspects of distance racing and that alone was worth the price of the weekend. She was amazing.
I went to the Wisconsin camp in 2002. I had a good time. If you are not familiar with the area/course it could be worthwhile. It certainly will you give confidence. I think that if you are racing your first Ironman the camp is more valuable than if you have raced several.
There are several other camps that would give you similar experiences, possibly for less money. But I would echo other comments that Huddle/Frey are a class act. And PNF is simply amazing. At our camp Tim DeBoom was there. So I guess some of the money is justified as sort of a Fantasy Camp. It is kind of neat to sit down at a table during lunch and get to talk with Tim Deboom about NASCAR or whatever!
