This is purely running related so…
I’ve finished my last tri of the season in July and began a training cycle for a hilly as hell marathon that I ran last weekend. It was a B-race because I’m two weeks out from a race that I’m taking serious. I ran it kind of easy and felt great about 4-5 days afterwards. I’ll be running on a team in the Army 10 Miler on 12 Oct and I’m gunning for 64-65 mins (I’m the only AF guy running w/ a bunch of Joes so I kind of need to make sure I don’t fall apart). My question is how to taper/peak for the upcoming race.
I’ve been running 50 mpw for the last few months and personally think I need to hit 1 -2 more speed sessions post marathon, but I don’t want it to wear me out since I’m technically still recovering from the marathon. I’d like to get back into my routine, but once again I’m not sure if I should be taking it easy. My typical week is Mon-quality run (45 mins @ tempo) Tues-60 mins Easy, Wed-AM Speed work (400-800s, 7-10 miles total, PM Easy 60 mins w/ a few strides, Fri-60-75 mins easy Sat - Long Run (2-2.5 hr).
I’ve been doing easy, long run paced runs until this morning. I ran a 2 mile warm up, 4 miles at 6:26 and a mile to cool down. I plan to get a 45 min easy run before I go to sleep. Am I pushing it or over analyzing? Thanks.
