Muddy Buddy

I had my final tri of the season three days ago (boo hoo!), but I have one more race on the 23rd…Muddy Buddy. Tom, if you read this, I saw your report. Sounds like a blast! I’m doing the race with my wife. Busted out the mtn bike for the first time in 6 months today and rode on the dirt to get used to it after riding only my road bike since then.
Anything I need to do to prepare?

I did the one in Austin a few months ago, it’s an excellent race. It’s a fun and relaxed race. I did a little trail running to prepare, just to get used to running on rocks and stuff. Other than that and getting on your mtn bike for a while, I don’t think there’s any special preparation. Have fun! And wear some shoes you can throw away at the end

Thanks. Good tip about the thrasher shoes.

Well, I destroyed my $180+ Giro Atmos helmet there on the obstacle course :frowning:

So, bring a cheap helmet. Your clothes can get gross too.

Try to mark your bike well so it could be found in a crowded transition area. Make an arrangement with your Buddy to place the bike in the same general location (i.e., lower right hand corner or whatever) of the transition area each time so you can locate it.

Other than that, have fun!

that sucks about the helmet!
yeah, in the goody bag for the austin race, there was a gift certificate for some new shoes! Really nice ones, too, some adidas trail running shoes.

Thanks Tom. Since my helmet is a $14 Costco-bought Bell helmet, that shouldn’t be a problem. I’ve done 11 triathlons in that thing and it’s still going!
