MTB Sizing Question

I am 6ft and currently ride a large (58) Specialized Transition and a 56 Cannondale System Six Road Bike. I am looking to pick up a cheap mountain bike off ebay to mess around on. I have no idea about sizing. Can anyone gve me a general idea about where I shoulod be size wise?

It’s hard to say exactly but if you like a compact ride look around 17"-18" Most would say your size should be 18-19". For a longer reach ride, go 20". 21" might be a bit long of a reach and your handling will suffer.

I’m 5’7" and ride a 17" Ironhorse Azure Expert FS rig. I love it, but would probably size down for my next bike to a 16" because I like a more compact riding position.

Make sure you have 2" between your nads and the top tube!

I’m 6’2" and ride a 56cm P3C with 100mm stem and a 20" XC bike with a 120mm stem.

No substitute for trying first.

Don’t forget that on a MTB you will move around much more than on a road/TT bike, also the suspension changes the geometry of the bike a fair bit as you ride so exact head tube/ seat tube angles etc aren’t quite as important as on the road.

I’m 6’ w/34" inseam, and I ride a 56" P2C, and an 18" Stumpjumper (M4 compact style hardtail frame). But who knows, try out a bike at a shop for sizing purposes.
