I finally purchased a mountain bike from a fellow cyclist at school and so far it’s been a blast riding trails. Heck alot more fun than road. The price was amazing, was full suspension, carbon fiber(wasn’t really too keen on CF but not complaining), good components, trustworthy seller and so I had to jump on it. Only downside is the ugly color(which is just my personal opinion since original owner loved it). It was a baby blue Project One paint scheme. Personally I would not have paid more for that particular paint scheme. Here’s the before;
This is the first time I’ve ever painted a bike, let alone a carbon fiber one. Taking the bike apart was the easy part. Basically I sanded it down only to bare paint. At one spot in the rear triangle, I had sanded a touch too much and actually was able to see the CF weave. Luckily it barely touched the CF. Anyways, after sanding, I went and filled some chips and a part of the bottom bracket(that was the only aluminum part). Sanded it down one final time and started spraying. I wanted premium automotive paint but had no spray gun. However, the paint shop was able to mix the exact black premium paint I wanted and put it in a can. Downside of aerosol spray is uneven spraying but I dealt with it. 4 coats of black and then 7 coats of clear got me the end result I wanted. I went ahead and sprayed my cranks too.
Got some decals custom made and voila!
Came out pretty nice IMO actually. I just need something near the bottom bracket since that part seems rather bare. Oh and yellow cable housing coming up!
