I understand I cannot take my iTunes files over to my Stiletto however I figured I would tap into the collective minds here on ST to see if anyone knows a way I can convert my iTunes files - over 3000 songs, into either of these audio formats:
MP3, WMA, and WMA DRM10
I will tell you this thing is AWESOME and I really don’t care if I can’t get my iTunes files over - I can simply record whatever I need live- it stores over 100 hours of music.
Thanks for any assistance you may be able to give me and merry Xmas!!
There are hacks that will allow you to convert the Apple DRM to MP3 format, but it’s a fast-moving target; Apple is continually updating I-Tunes to defeat the hacks, the hacks change in response, etc.
…is the place to start, but fair warning, don’t get into this if you aren’t authentically tech-savvy. You can always just burn the tunes you want to a disc and re-import them.
Fredly: You’re making assumptions I don’t think are valid. The OP only has DRM problems if his songs are from the iTunes store. I’d be surprised if he pissed away 3 grand at the iTunes store.
The OP doesn’t provide enough info to say anything definitively regarding his question. How were the songs originally ripped (ie, what format are they in)? How much does he care for sound quality? There are easy methods to transcode lossy formats, but not if you care about SQ.
In any case, he can always do what he’s doing. Re-rip.
you are right - I did not drop $3K at itunes - wonder if you think the way I am swapping my music over is the most effective - without compromising sound quality - albeit not the most efficient way
.
If you’ve originally ripped your music using iTunes at its default settings (128kbps AAC), then you really only have two options. One, you can re-rip your CDs to mp3 files using whatever program you’d like. This is tedious. Two, you can transcode your AAC to mp3. This degrades sound quality. Keep in mind that this assumes your files are AAC. If you’ve gotten them from somewhere else (P2P, ahem) they may already be mp3.
This problem is why many people, myself included, originally rip CDs to a lossless format. I use FLAC. Then, if I ever need them in a different format, I can re-encode them without having to handle countless CDs. I can work with the FLAC files themselves as a batch.
Your Stiletto can only hold a few hundred songs at a time, correct?
