If you can stand the weather, Portland is a fantastic place to run and ride. Lot’s of running trails close by including many, many miles in Forest Park which is a short run from downtown. For riding, you can get to lots of good hills very quickly from the downtown area, or keep it totally flat if that is what you want.
I think your best bet is to check in with Athletes Lounge, our premier tri shop in town. They will have tons of info, and group runs/rides if you are interested.
If you are in to road bike racing, we have a thriving racing community (thanks to OBRA) with many races every week.
Bring your fender equipped rain bike. You’ll need it for a good part of the year!
Good thing you are coming in July! Weather is fantastic starting July 5th, is our local saying.
Feel free to email - far too many comments to post. Portland is awesome for trail and paved running. No shortage of biking opportunities, between road, 'cross, mountain, and tri stuff. Easy drive to large local lake for open water, or within Portland in the rivers or local coves. Open ocean swimming is probably the only thing we don’t really have (extremely cold and not calm). Great training here in summertime when it’s light until 9pm+. Swimming pools and masters programs are the hardest, but, they are here. Where you train depends on where you are living and working, typically, like most cities, so once you have that info it’s a bit easier. Tons of road rides are documented online, also, between clubs, books and the various century rides.
