Moving to Portland ME within the month and need a job. If you know of anything please let me know. Ill do anything that makes money.
22yo. 2xIM finisher. Hard worker. Also looking for a place to live. Dont want to spend a ton but dont want to live in a shoe box either.
I’m not sure that posting this in the main forum as opposed to the jobs forum reflects well on your employability.
Nobody looks at the Jobs forum. There were a total of 8 post in the entire month of July. If you are going to put something out there don’t you want to put it where people are going to see it?
Lobster fisher man?
There is a Whole foods here, they are always hiring.
There is a multisport store here, www.mypeakmultisport.com
BTW…we know you can finish an IM…can you do anything else?
Got 3+ years of masonry experience. Will do what I have to do to make money but would rather stay out of that field. Some experience in graphic printing. Willing to try and learn anything. Put the IM finisher in there not as a bragging point but as a point that Im willing to work.
My brother-in-law spent a summer living on Peaks Island. His buddy worked at Portland Lobster company, which is right there in Old Port. They are hiring.

Do what my brother-in-law did though, and get it written into your contract that you don’t have to wear the “Pinchy” suit. His buddy wasn’t so smart and spent most of the summer like this:

Thanks kdw. I will look into it but doesn’t look like any winter work.
“Will do what I have to do to make money but would rather stay out of that field.”
I’m a mason for 30+ years. That’s a good decision.

Damn! When did they let lobsters have guns?
A week or so ago, lobsterman A tried to haul lobsterman B’s traps - that’s illegal, you can’t fish in someone else’s waters. While there are Real Laws surrounding this sort of thing, lobsterman also have their own code of conduct and in this particular place hauling someone else’s traps = ok for lobsterman A to shoot them.
I’m serious. I’ll try and find a news link to it. Bit of a mess when it comes to the court system trying to sort it out, land laws vs their local ones.
The lobster may play with guns all they want but only after they have bands on their claws

Maine Lobsterman Charged In Shooting Over Turf War
Lobsterman Charged In Shooting Over Fishing Turf War In Waters Off Maine Island
(AP) A lobsterman in Maine has been charged with shooting a fellow lobsterman in what police say was a fishing turf dispute.
Sixty-eight-year-old Vance Bunker was being held Tuesday on an elevated aggravated assault charge. He’s accused of shooting Chris Young in the neck Monday on a Matinicus Island pier.
Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland says an argument over fishing territory escalated to the point where a marine patrol officer was called to the island, 20 miles off Rockland. He says the shooting happened in the officer’s presence.
Young was flown to the mainland and taken to a hospital. He’s in stable condition.
These are tough times for lobstermen. Prices are so low that some are talking about tying up their boats while waiting for prices to rebound.

It’s been escalating.
heard the topless donut shop burned down. Real bummer for you.
Work at LL Bean!
Aw, crap. I hadn’t heard - must’ve happened when I was on vacation. Goes to show why you shouldn’t procrastinate.
Of course, I assume that this turn of events doesn’t have any bearing on the OP’s job prospects.
When I did masonry I really didn’t mind the work of building something. It was actually quite rewarding but I just didn’t care for going home feeling like I was 90yo. At 21yo your back shouldnt be so messed up you can hardly stand. I have no problem working hard but I don’t want to feel it when I go home. I work hard so I can play hard and masonry just didn’t allow me to do that.

Unless you’re pro, training and racing for IM is fun … not work. Even if you’re a pro, it’s probably still more fun than work. So, in effect, you’re willing to have fun. If we continue to blur the line between work and triathlon, I may just kill myself.
And its people that read to much into things that I can’t stand. Yes burnman I put a post out there to see if anyone knew of any jobs in portland and I wanted to tell them “Im willing to have fun.” Point was that Im not lazy and am willing to go above and beyond what is required. I dont go home after work and sit on the couch. Yes IM is fun but it takes alot of work too. I don’t know about you but I hear people say I can’t do IM because its too much “work” not because its too much “fun” which to you is the same thing I guess.
