Moving to Paris

Hi, I am moving to Paris to live for the next few years at the end of the month. Was wondering what is the best way to ship my bicycle from New York City to Paris? I have a residential address for delivery of where I will be living (my flat mate is already there).
thanks so much—

If you can take your bike with you on the plane that is probably the best option, but since you’re moving, you probably have more than enough stuff with you already.
The best way to send it is to use the US Postal Service. Boxes must be less than 108 inches in length plus girth (which is twice the height plus twice the width.) That is not all that large so you’ll definitely need to ship the wheels separately.

Afraid I can’t help you with information regarding shipping your bike, but I wanted to wish you luck relocating. I’m spending a year here in France (about 30 mins outside of Paris) and I’m loving it. The people here are really nice, the culture is great, and the cycling is amazing! Enjoy…

Although it will be a pain for a few hours, I’d ship it on the plane with you.

Seriously. I ended up waiting 6 weeks for my stuff to arrive in Germany (I’m still waiting for my trainer).

The weather is about to turn for the better in Paris and you’ll be wanting to do those afternoon rides in the Bois de Boulogne and out toward Versailles… Just make it a painful day and bring it on the plane with you.

Good luck. I’m living in Stuttgart right now, but I cut my cycling teeth racing in Paris in the early-90s. It’s a wonderful city with great running and riding.

Hey,
Bring it on the plane with you if you can. It’s the fastest and cheapest way, even with the extra bike fees. I’ve been in Paris a little over a year. Once I got here I looked into getting my bikes shipped out to me. Air Canada wanted to charge me 500 CDN for each bike. In the end, it was cheaper to send my wife back by plane to pick them up. Besides, the nice weather will be here soon and you won’t want to miss out on any of it. Let me know if you need any help with where to swim/bike/run.

thanks for all the responses. wanted to minimize what i’d have to carry with me so was trying to send my bike ahead—guess the consensus is to take it with me.
thanks for the offer sauger!
