Question. I have 2 Hed wheels, one FR and another one is a regular Jet C2 version. The non-FR wheel has a PT hub. I’d like to move to the FR wheel. Is it easy enough to do in a garage? I am assuming the spokes and nipples can be re-used?
If not - know of anyone in SoCal who can do this, besides the wheelbuilder guys?
Thanks!
Because you’re asking I’m guessing it’s your first, so unless you have a tension meter I wouldn’t recommend doing it yourself. When a wheel is built properly it will stay true and never give you any trouble. When a wheel is not built properly it will go out of true easily, break spokes, have nipples come lose, etc…
To reuse the spokes both rims must have the same ERD.
My LBS did what you describe for about $75 this spring. I had an older rebuilt hub moved from an aluminum box rim to a Zipp 303. The cost covered new spokes, nipples, etc. Well worth the cost!
Never confirmed this, but I’ve always heard reusing spokes and spoke-nipples is a pretty bad idea. I’d bet the wheelbuilder guys could do a great job for not too much $.
I have a horrible feeling that you cant swap the PT from one rim to the other. The carbon fairing has a hole drilling pattern specific to the hub size. Switching to a PT hub would mean that the hole positions would be all out of whack.
If you find out otherwise then please let me know as I have a PT on an Ardennes that i’d love to lace into my Jet 9

If the number of spokes and the pattern are the same a fairing shouldn’t have an affect. At the most you might need to elongate a hole or 2, but I doubt if that would even be required.
