Thinking of switching to Tailwind as a friend uses it. Anyone switched over from Infinit to that or something else? Success? Failure?
Thanks
I’m currently using Tailwind, it’s fine with 1-2 scoops in a standard bike bottle but once I put 3 it gets pretty sweet and salty. It’s fine for now since I’m not doing any ultra distance racing but I recall GU Roctane being a bit milder when concentrated. I’ve never tried Infinit so can’t compare anything to it.
I mix 2 scoops carbo pro and 2 scoops of Skratch for light flavor. Add also a packet of 1500 Precision Hydration sodium (been sweat tested). Per bottle. 3 bottles for a half bike.
Most easy to get is the Speed formula but doing the women’s variety in pink lemonade. When they have the custom sale for Black Friday, I make a few bags in cranberry flavor. These tart flavors sit better with me after few hours
I tried infinit….too sweet for me. I use ucan now and love it. I make concentrated bottles for long rides/races and supplement with base salts and picky bars as needed. Good luck!

You know that you can dial down (or up) the level of sweetness on your custom infinIT formula, right?
I’ve had no issues drinking my custom formula (for about seven years now), even when it gets hot at the end of a long summer ride. And I have the flavor cranked up pretty high.
Yes….I basically had no sweetener in my custom formula. Got stomach sick every long ride, and just never settled into it. Absolutely no issues with the ucan.
No one has mentioned Maurten, and I didn’t see any reason for why not, so I wanted to add that as a suggestion.
It works extremely well, and I have never had stomach problems with it or heard of anyone else having stomach problems using it. My wife and I used it for a 7+ hour mountain bike ride and it was phenomenal. We used the 320/100CAF, with 80g carbs and 100mg caffeine. It’s expensive ($4+ per serving), but for big training days and races, I have found it to be worth it. I usually don’t train with the full race nutrition setup, so I’m not spending $20/ride or anything. I’ll instead do 1-2 for a longer ride and supplement with whatever I can buy when I’m out there. For a race, I’d do something like 1 bottle/hour with a little water from another bottle and then add a bit of solid nutrition of some type. It’s light enough flavor low sweetness, and it’s weirdly about half as dense the SiS Beta Fuel I also use (though BF is less palatable by a good bit for long workouts). It’s worth a shot, at least!
On Scratch, Go hydration or super fuel for Ironman’s?
Infinit guy now but a smidge of gut rot, maybe cuz I add caffeine?by the run I am always ready for something else, not from flavors just a bit…hmm not sure
Like CarboPro too, but if I add it to Scratch hydration that seems like a lot of calories?
I do the concentrate sip water trick too, usually 3-4 bottles in an IM though, aiming at 300 calories an hour is the key these days right?

Not to hijack this thread, but I have found the requirement that Maurten can only be mixed with 500 mL water to be odd. 500mL’s per hour is a little to low, so unless I carry separate water bottles, I have found it tough to use this on long rides. Anyone have any thoughts / workarounds?
FYI, caffeine is unlikely to contribute to gut rot. I’d look elsewhere for rationale there. Common thought though and as one of the most potent chemicals (largest effect per gram) that’s included in workout fuel, it intuitively seems like it might be at high risk of offending one’s gut, but there is little to no evidence of that.
I’d also aim higher than 300kcal/hr. There are folks managing 400-550kcal per hour throughout a 140.6. The 300kcal/hr recommendation is pretty old dogma and very far in the direction of gut safety rather than optimized risk:reward for performance enhancement for most people.
This explains how I do it, using Gatorade. Would work the same for any other endurance beverage mix.

Didn’t want to start a new thread so hope it’s okay to bump this as it’s only a few months old.
I’ve been following the above recommendation for longer indoor / outdoor rides and I adjust as necessary based on length of ride/workout. What I’ve found is, post-workout, I crash hard after using the mix above as compared to when I go the Gatorade + chews (Clif BLOKS) route. Could this indicate I’m overdoing it on fuel? Maybe related to a drop in blood pressure? No issues on the ride so I doubt I’m under fueling or dehydrated.
More likely that you’re doing it very well, and that you need to eat sooner after you ride. And, in training, continue to fuel with high-carbs all the way to your last pedal stroke. It’ll buy you some time before you MUST eat a post-workout meal due to onset of hypoglycemia.
