Moving: Chicago Triathlon Clubs/Scene

I am moving to Chicago in January from NYC and I am looking for information about the Chicago triathlon scene. I am a moderate but dedicated triathlete who races 3-4 times a season (usually a half and a bunch of Olympics), and I am quite dedicated to training. I am a member of a great team in NYC and I am looking for something similar in Chicago. I prefer a team that has a good balance of workouts and social, ideally. I am moving to the Streeterville area, but I will have a car. Any and all thoughts and insights on the Chicago tri team scene would be MUCH appreciated!

Thanks!

The Chicago Tri scene is healthy. You will not have any problem finding a club that you connect with. Just off of the top of my head there is the Chicago Tri Club, Element Multisport, Experience Triathlon, Endure It!, Vision Quest, TriSmart, and Amphibian Multisport. I know there are a ton more as well.

For you being directly in Chicago I would check out Chicago Tri Club, Element Multisport, and Vision Quest.

As far as races, you can easily race 3-4 times a year without leaving the Chicago area. Local races such as the Chicago Triathlon,Batavia Sprint, Naperville Sprint, Galena Triathlon, just to name a few. Next year the ITU Grand Final will be in Chicago. In addition out of state there are Ironman Wisconsin, Ironman 70.3 Racine, REV3 Wisconsin Dells, Toughman in Indiana.

You will be good to go. Triathlon is strong here in the Midwest.

In addition, Ironman 70.3 Steelhead is about a two hour drive and is a very nice venue.

Door County is another great half (heads above any Racine race I’ve ever done). Bigfoot for OLY’s, crystal lake OLY, rockford OLY. there are a ton.

Do you know where in Streeterville you will be living? (That’s where I live.) PM and I can tell you about easily accessible training stuff here (and other neighborhood info if you want it).

Well-fit has a competitive team and normal I believe
.

Just remember to not ride lakeshore trail during the busy hours, or you will hate your life

Open Water Chicago is an awesome swim group. They go year round but you should definitely jump in by April/May with a wetsuit. Most amazing way to start you Saturday.
