Back in the 90s I remember the “twin movie” phenomenon with Volcano & Dantes Peak, Armageddon & Deep Impact, Braveheart & Rob Roy. Competing studios capitalized on the same concept for box office hits.
Trying to think if there were other movies that followed the same pattern. Same plot in the same year or so.

A recent one is The Substance, by Demi Moore, is being ‘twinned’ by Ashton Kutcher (her ex, makes it juicier) as a TV show - The Beauty.

But then I wouldn’t enjoy the thoughtful banter that is the warehouse formerly known as Lavender Room.

Top Gun and Iron Eagle.
Although, to be fair, I think Iron Eagle was released later to try to capitalize on Top Gun’s popularity, rather than competitive studio releases?

I just checked and they were both released in 86.
That’s also the first I thought of.
