Movie Review: Paris, je t'aime

Since I am child free for the summer I get to see some grown up movies.

Paris, je t’aime is collection of 18 five minute films that all take place in Paris and they do a pretty good job with the segues from one to the next. Each film has a different director, but they fit together nicely. Some were funny, some very sad, and a couple were just plain strange. My favorites were: Tuileries directed by the Coen brothers starring Steve Buscemi Place de Victoires starring Juliette Binoche and Willem DaFoe- heartbreaking Quartier Latin starring Gena Rowlands and Gerard Depardieu- very funny
There are quite a few big name american movie stars- Natalie Portman, Nick Nolte, Elijah Wood, Bob Hoskins, Maggie Gyllenhaal and more. I recommend this to anyone who would like a bit of a change from the normal movie going experience.

Is it in French?

merci, merci! J’ai voulu voir ce film !

Most of it is in French, some English. the subtitles are not difficult to keep up with. Actually, there is not a lot of dialog. That’s one of the great things about this (these) film(s), a lot of acting without a lot of talking.

Just make sure you don’t drink a lot first/during. No time for bathroom breaks when each film is only 5 minutes!

good point!
also my husband’s “punctual neurosis” will ensure we get there at least 40 minutes beforehand…we won’t miss a thing.

i’m so pumped for this film!

Actually I don’t mind the French dialogues as I am working on my listening comprehension.

Hijack alert - did you see Jodi Foster’s small role in “The Long Engagement” (a Jean Piere Jeunet film)? Turns out she spoke perfect French. I never knew that, and it was a nice surprise to see such versatility in her.

I watched the movie last night. I did a search and found this thread about it. Just curious what other people’s favorite episodes were, here is mine :

1- The american woman visiting paris and falling in love with the city. (she portrayed an extremely nice person whom I felt I could connect to, for some reason that whole episode was as touching as how simple it was, brilliant art imo).

2- The one that Natalie Portman played in it with the blind boy. very poetic. (I am a big fan of her)

3- The one that the guy’s wife had leukemia and he fell in love with her again.

i loved those 3 (especially the 1st one you mentioned) and also the opening act where the woman collapses. emily mortimier (how spell) was also adorable as usual.

this film was fantastic, i just loved it.

Quartier Latin starring Gena Rowlands and Gerard Depardieu- very funny
Like there could possibly be a French film that did not have Gerard Depardieu in it!
