It’s a movie about an Irish guy, who works part-time helping his father run a small, vacuum cleaner repair business, but dreams of one day having his songs recorded and landing a record deal. Absolutely one of the best movies of year. Beautiful music. Won the Sundance Film Festival’s Audience Award. It might not be playing inlot of places as it is an independent movie, but if it is playing near you, I would highly recommend it.
I saw this movie a few weeks ago. It was VERY good. Loved it, and highly recommend it. Great story and great music. Look for it in your local Indie theater.
It’s a musical, but not in your traditional sense. The musical numbers are about making/creating and performing actual music…not using music numbers to act out scenes. The guy and the girl in the movie wrote and perfomed all the music. A really simple movie/sotry line, but that is part of what makes it good. Also, the actors were encouraged to ad-lib much of the dialoge.
The guy in the film was also the guitar player in the band in the movie “The Commitments” if anyone has seen that movie. I belive he is the lead singer/guitar player for the band The Frames in real life. By the way, the movie “The Commitments” is also good…came out a long while ago, but rent it if you like the stuff.
While it is rated “R”, I believe it should have been PG-13 at most. It only got the R rating because of a few f-bombs were dropped, but not really even really used in a vulgar manner. No sex/drugs/nudity/gore. I would take my teenagers to see it. It has a good message.
Edit: In retrospect, I don’t think I’d classify it so much as a “musical”, as that turns a lot of people off. I would say it is a music movie, about music (and other stuff :=) ). No way is it even the same type of movie as something like Dreamgirls – in a good way.
No sex/nudity/gore.
I’m out!
thank you both so much…that sounds exactly like our type of film (husband and I).
will be sure to see it!!!
